A question of social graces, and an example of the perils of worrying too much.

What are your responsibilities for this situation--I got into an elevator and hit 9.  Another guy came in and hit 8, followed by a third guy who hit 7. When we got to floor 7, the guy for floor 8 got out.  I saw this before the doors closed.  Should I have called after him to tell him he got off early?

I didn't, but was already thinking about the situation in the abstract, so much so that when the doors opened next, on the eighth floor, I exited without thinking.  I did catch myself and got back on (for the one more floor to go) and as the doors were closing, the guy who was supposed to get out on that floor walked by, having come up the stairs.  He totally saw that I got out and got back on the elevator.  We shared a sheepish smile of acknowledgement.
