This was a long and difficult image to make. I’ve been working on it for over two months now. I found it very difficult to get just the right base body for Orli - and when I finally found one it was very, very hard to match the lighting and texture on Viggo’s body. I loved the combination of sharp focus with grain and really soft lighting in the base I used for Viggo, but it was a right cow to match! Both faces had to have new highlights and shadows added to match the lighting scheme.
It was also difficult to find the right backing. Originally I tried to put Orli in a bed, but it just didn’t work. I needed sky behind Viggo - and sky with cloud so he could be both backlit and side lit in that soft and pearly way. I hunted for a photo of a beach with the sand close enough to the camera to allow me to pile it up around Orli, and dig his elbows in.
The wings come from a photo of a single wing which has been much altered in order to make them slightly asymmetrical, and to give me the angle I wanted. I’ve made the light shine through the wing on our right, in order to suit the backlighting on Viggo’s body.
A lot of me went into this one - lots of effort and lots of emotion as well. Many, many thanks to the ladies at Thalassa’s Manipulations for their help and support in the later stages.
