It appears that everyone I speak to is having love troubles so I am inspired once again to write about: would you guess it: love. Let me first start off by saying I am a firm believer in love, I strongly stand by everything I say about it and if there’s one thing I do listen to my self on most of the time it would be about love.
The life of love comes to 3 important things; first trust, then choices, then sacrifice. These three simply but scarcely observed principles are the foundations for which one can have a successful loving relationship based upon. Trust is obvious and therefore I feel no need to really dive into it other than that one has to trust his or herself foremost and then trust their lover before things can go any further. So this leaves choice and sacrifice. I’ve spoken about these two things before and I strongly believe that they are the fundamental principles to life in general.
Life is about choices: everyone in the world has some good in them and some bad. This goes back to the very genes which we are created from. (Selfish Gene - really good book by Richard Dawkins if interested in more about this) The gist behind the book is that genes are selectively selfish meaning they evolve from natural selection to pick for characteristics that have been successful and therefore anything that is successful prevails over those characteristics which are not. Therefore in order to have love, in order to be loved, in order to attract love we are selfish about it. What really I am getting at here is we are provided with choices, we can choose love, or we can not choose love, however, that’s a choice that has to be made. Secondly, we can choose to hurt people or we can choose not to, however, this brings so many of us into a situation where we end up confronted by having to chose to hurt someone or else force ourselves into a relationship that perhaps we personally are not ready for, or really are not prepared for. This is a very hard thing to do for most people. Let me put it this way though: If I had a choice, between choosing to hurt someone because they said they loved me and being with them if deep down I knew it wouldn’t work out at all, then I would make the choice to hurt them from the beginning. Making that choice is hard, if there is anyone that understands that concept it is myself because I have had to make it more than once. However, at least one retains their self dignity, one remains honest in conviction and does not end up putting themselves into situations that are so difficult to pull out of. When it comes down to life and love someone always must get hurt, however, you can be honest and respectful about how things are done by making good choices.
This brings me to sacrifice which I believe is the second and probably most perilous part of being human. As I have already said humans are selfish by nature it is extremely unavoidable. Those who understand this concept understand that sometimes in the name of love wee have to make sacrifices of our own pride, our own ambitions and sometimes other emotions and feelings that we may have. I firmly believe and this is the clincher that in order to truly be able to love someone and mean it, you have to be willing to let them go if they don’t feel the same.
Love starts with friendship and becomes trust, grows with a kiss and so often ends in heart breaking sacrifices. This is the way it was meant to be, this is how life is and if you truly believe in love then you know that the heart of life goes on despite being broken.
