The town next to the one I live in holds the Flamingo Days celebration every summer. I'm not really sure how it got to be Flamingos (it is the mascot of the Local Polo and Yacht club, which has nothing to do with either polo ponies or yachts), but it is a lot of cheesy fun, and who doesn't like cheesy fun. Years ago (this picture is from 2008) I did a book cart drill team with the local librarians (I spend a lot of time there and have since I was a kid, I also volunteer). Someone passing through took a picture and posted it to their travel blog, and it was finally sent to me. It was a lot of fun, and I hope we can do it again this year. I'm in the pink hat. Our local library is the best (they got a five star rating from Library Journal)!
