CNN: "Dutch crush world champ Italy 3-0"

Jun 10, 2008 09:19

I have to admit I was a wee bit worried when I first saw the results of the draw for Euro 2008. Fate put us, Cheese heads, in what was instantly called the Group of Death, having to compete with World Cup holder Italy, former world and European champion France and designated dangerous underdog Romania in the first round
of the tournament. Let me just add that we ain't a lousy football team either, with a squad of players who work for the most prestigious European clubs around. Playing either the Azzurri or Les Bleus would be the ideal final on its own, but we'd have to beat both teams to advance to the next round, which equals playing a final twice. Imagine the pressure attached to those games. Anywoo, the first games in 'our' group C were scheduled to take place yesterday, and we couldn't have kicked off this adventure any better than this! After France's tedious 0-0 draw against Romania, we kicked some Italian ass, beating them three to nil, which is their worst defeat in 25 years!!!! Thát is something else! Thát is when I get to go back to my beloved neanderthal roots: I grunt, stamp my feet, I burp and I fart (pardon my French). It was A W E S O M E! Whereas France, Romania ánd Italy have to fight their way to a victory, we now have the luxury to play our own game in the two remaining first round games.

Other than that, I think it's great to see our little country change into an orange one: Houses, people, cars, pets, hair, food, toilet paper, band aid, virtually everything is coloured orange these days. I love it, I love it!

Well, let me finish by sharing BBC's view: "a classic encounter" and "The Dutch were worthy winners of a magnificent game - and made it clear they have the quality to have a major impact on Euro 2008."

And, what the heck, here's the Guardian's: "Here was the true opening ceremony for Euro 2008. It was the night when pandemonium was unleashed in the tournament, releasing excitement and surprise as Italy were beaten by Holland for the first time since the World Cup of 30 years ago. "
