So, our British adventure was pretty cool. In more than one way that is. Our flight to England was a success. Sam loved the view over Amsterdam at night, which of course served us very well. When another baby at the airplane started crying, and Sam kept enjoying himself, we, naturally, felt extra proud of our offspring. Upon arrival we learned my mother-in-law, who'd already arrived in Royal Leamington Spa by car, had turned sick with stomach flu, so, since I, too, hadn't completely recovered at that point, the weekend promised to be an interesting one. Well, we certainly didn't feel like eating and drinking a whole lot. And Truus and I didn't appear to be the only ones, which is a bit disappointing, to say the least, when you're at an all you can eat Chinese buffet restaurant. I e.g. only had some veggies and a couple of pints of Sun Lik(?). It turned out to be a special evening for another reason as well: Maikel announced he's got plans to move back to Holland in order to be closer to his family and friends. If all goes according to schedule, he'll be back by the end of the year. It was cool how he mentioned he'd like to hang around with Sam a lot more often. Talking about Sam. When we picked him up at his ancient babysitter's, he appeared to have had a great time. We'd only gotten acquainted to her, Berti, a few hours before we left Sam there, but I must admit, she did a very good job at entertaining Sam for the evening.

Sunday was the healthiest day of them all. We actually went for a dive at the municipal swimming pool (where we weren't allowed to take pics due to the presence of kids (!!!). It was part of a British law to protect kids from being 'abused'. Can you believe that?!) It was a great place to see Sam play with his cool Miffy vessel.

Monday was the main reason why we took a trip across the Channel: It was Maikel's b-day, and guess what we got him? Right, we gave him a stomach flu, which he decided to use immediately. The 1st thing he did on 'his' day involved a toilet bowl. Y'all can probably guess what happened there. But we're already relieved he didn't use the 3 liter Hoegaarden beerglass we gave him to contain the 'products' of those actions. We celebrated Mike's 31st b-day at a typically English restaurant, where again, neither one of us finished our meals. Wendy, who ordered a dish that included some form of baked dough, a huge spoonful of mash and no less than 6 sausages, really only touched that and quit right after.

When Jan, Nicole's dad, was victimised by the flu virus, it was time to go home. I'd have loved to stay in England a while longer, but 'we had obligations'. Nicole, Sam and myself took the train to Birmingham airport (which was surprisingly modern. The train, that is). It felt good returning to Holland with only the three of us, cuz we really hadn't had the chance to do anything with only the 3 of us without any one else involving that weekend.

Unfortunately, that's my report on what's probably been the last visit we paid to Maikel's England.

health, vacation, family
