a part of life it is

It felt good to have a day off from work last Monday after having worked way too many hours last weekend, following the usual 40 hours of work. It's a pity I didn't take all day off just because I felt like it. I did it because of Fred's funeral. It was a beautiful day, which, i know, sounds weird when you're in fact referring to a funeral. Ilse prepared a beautiful speech. It sounded like she and Fred were the perfect couple together, which makes it even sadder to realize that he isn't here any more. On the plus side: it did make me realize how lucky I am to have Nicole. Does that sound corney or what?

The weirdest thing was the event of his death was covered in quite a number of Italian newspapers. The stories contained detailed pictures of the 'event'. The editors also included pics that really weren't for the journalists to print, such as the pics form his driver's license and passport. At that point, those weren't even given public yet.

If I had to get buried right now (which, I hope, isn't the case), I'd want it to be similar to Fred's: the only people to speak about me would be doing it because they wanted to, and no rubbish extras, such as pastors or 'funeral care takers', should be present to distract everyone from why they're really there. Just a bunch of good, real people and fine music. That's all.
