Please don't vote!

Ok, this will be a quick one. My guidance to most people is to please not vote in any elections. I see the "Rock the Vote" ads and bumper stickers and the advocacy for "Get out there and vote" all the time and I have to tell you, this is a horrible idea. I said "Don't Vote" because the only type of voter that this would work on is the same kind of voter who would go out and vote just because someone on MTV said they should. In the rest of my post, I did say that if you have an actual opinion and have some awareness of the issues/candidates, then by all means vote. And I agree, it's true that not everyone has access to the best news, or even news that isn't biased, and that should be remedied.

And you can lead an idiot to water, but you can't always convince them of what it's used for. Our educational system is another topic I should write up one day, but I think at some point people need to take the responsibility for their own education. If you want to change your lot in life, read a book without pictures, watch 60 Minutes rather than Jerry Springer, or listen to talk radio on your way to work rather than listening to Howard Stern describe a naked woman to you over the radio (he does realize that it's radio, not TV, right?).

I've met the intellectual elite, and I had hoped for better. We need a changing of that guard as well.
