Yet another semester officially ends tomorrow when I hand up my Animation assignment, and after that head to the airport! Am leaving for Melbourne tomorrow night for sister's graduation ceremony, and then we're off to New Zealand for a week-long vacation. Which involves tons of driving, since we're not following a tour. At least I finally have time to finish playing my DS games, whoo.

Anyway, I don't know why seniors keep going on about this being the most stressful semester of all. I mean, sure, Visual Story-telling did spark off a lot of arguments among teams and friendships got strained (not so much in my group though :D), seeing that good friends don't necessarily make good work partners. I thank God that my team got along fairly well, though we do have some arguments when each of us have opinions that we don't like to accept. We strong-headed people don't like to compromise haha. But all is well I guess. Our first short film was decent enough though last-minute editing caused the quality of the whole film, in terms of smoothness and finishing, to slip a bit. But overall our lecturer was (kinda?) satisfied by the result.

Yesterday out second short film was presented and reviewed in class. Our lecturer, Christopher, had invited some senior producer bigwig as well to give us more critique (from the perspective of an industry professional), and I'm very glad to announce that our film was pretty good! :D Of course as usual, last-minute editing and rendering caused us to panic and tempers rose, but God answered my prayers and the class started late enough that we had enough time to rush over with a decent version of our film. And reception was pretty good! The guest judge and Christopher enjoyed watching our film, though as Christopher had told us before in the previous weeks, our concept and story are too commercial. But story aside, they liked the technical aspect we proved in the film! :D

I guess I should actually describe what we did yeah? XD

First short film is a story of a young orphan named Wen, who lives with her dog. Started off with an old Wen reminiscing about her past when she finds an old photo of her with her dog. In a nutshell, Wen went through a lot of hardship, having little money to pay rent and getting thrown out of her house, and her dog going missing. She finally discovers her dog in a rich kid's home and they get reunited briefly, but the dog passes away later because it refuses to eat. Wen loses the will to live but gets saved by some random people and the flash back ends with Wen framing the photograph.

Second film is about a young man, Aaron, who lives a great life with his fiancee Melissa. But his father's best friend and boss, Jason starts advising him to take leave from work after a mysterious tragedy involving Melissa. Aaron is confused, and later Melissa goes missing. He discovers a newspaper article about a rape-murder case that occurred in their apartment. Later it turns out that Melissa was the victim in that case and Aaron refused to accept that fact, living a deluded life.

Hmm. Now that I put it into words, those are pretty depressing stories. HAHA. XD

Moving on, Business and Client Management was a pretty rubbish subject. No exams or assignments, just a proposal to build our own art studio to hand up at the end of the course. I barely learned anything in this subject.

Compositing and Editing class is pretty useful, I learned a lot of things using a software, Adobe After Effects. It's a powerful software, we can do so many things such as edit films, create those flashy advertisements you see on TV, and many more. Don't really know how to explain it in layman's terms properly, sorry. Best example I can give is, you can put foreign objects into a film/photo and colour correct it so that it will blend in and look like it's really a part of the original film/photo. Such as editing a KFC bucket of chicken into a McDonald's advertisement, though you can get sued for doing that kind of thing. XD Of course it really depends on your skill and patience to tweak the details bit by bit to make it look nice. I hate colour correcting, never got the hang of it. :P

Anyway, I need to get back to finishing my Animation assignment. Just fyi, I'm working on a lipsync assignment. We have the 3D character prepared for us, all we have to do is move it to make it act. Not as easy as it sounds, I'm getting the hang of it but it's not professional standard by far. Hope I get a decent grade at least, to overwrite the dismal C I got last semester. T_T

Will update when I return from my trip! Will be back on the 26th December. :D
