Alright now this week I ran out of TV. I usually watch TV while I work but since I don't have cable I just download some TV show that I have heard is good and watch it through. I watched House and now that I am up-to-date with that I have been looking for a new one. I tried Legend of the Seeker and Merlin, which I did not like, and then I remembered that Joss Whedon is doing a new show: Dollhouse, and I looove firefly so I thought I'd try it. So far I am only on episode two (which Badger is in!!! LOVE) and it seems okay but I am not quite sure yet, but that aside I noticed something. Joss says he is real feminist because of his mom and so he does a lot of "girl-power" themes or w/e. Now I haven't seen Buffy so I can't really tie that in but so far I have noticed this trend where he fills his cast with good and talented woman except for the main one, the real focus "girl" who is not so great...
Okay, so all of these guys are great! Love 'em, awesome actresses for w/e they are doing and they get the job done. Now...
So yeah, I'm not a fan. I have no problem with the character or anything like that but the actress is real off in my opinion. She is a mix of cliche response and non-emotional responses. Its either too much to the point of being cliche or so little it is very unbelievable. I just really don't like her acting at all it seems so fake and so weird... much like:
She has the same acting style: bland or cliche and just bad. At least thats how I feel about it. She seems very self-aware which is never good in acting and she also acts so "this is like this" and "that is like that" I don't know if you know what I mean but basically its just bad acting in my opinion. But:
She does a great job, just like the other girls from Firefly... its weird.
Other than that Dollhouse is kinda disappointing so far. I find the writing a little cliche as well and the direction is a little awkward, maybe because of the wide spaces. Firefly worked so nicely because it was such an intimate space so the acting inevitably became very personal and realistic, haha maybe that's why Inara is off: she's in the shuttle.
