Yesterday was so nice out. We went walking to the forest to pick dandelions. Did you know that dandelions are not native to North America? European settlers brought them over to this country to cultivate as FOOD. Yes, in Europe the dandelion is actually somewhat of a delicacy. I think it is ironic that it is the enemy of so many "lawnies" in our society. What is a "lawnie"? You know, those middle-age men who spend all of their free time watering the yard and mowing it so it looks as pristine as a baseball field. [sidenote: did anyone else see on the news that guy who SHOT and KILLED his 15 year old neighbor for walking on his lawn?] You can do lots of things with dandelions. Eat the leaves as greens in a salad. Juice the leaves. You can even make wine out of the flowers. But you'd better hurry up, because once the heat comes the dandelions will disappear.
