So Friday morning, Dan and I woke up early and packed up his truck. We fit a whole bunch of stuff in there, including 3 bikes, suitcases, 3 huge rubbermaid bins, and my scrapbooking bag which was filled to the brim. We're all packed up and pull out of the driveway and suddenly, Dan cant shift his truck. It's going noooowhere. So, he puts it into nuetral and it's sitting by the curb while he calls his dad to see if they can figure out what's wrong with it.
And Im sitting inside the truck, watching as it's starting to rain, and thinking...we couldnt possibly take my 1999 Neon on a 3.5 hour trip to the mountains, can we? And if the car will make it...will we even be able to pack everything into it?
Well, we decide that's exactly what we're going to do - take the Neon to Knoebels. We unpack the truck, call AAA, and pack up the Neon. Surprisingly, we get everything in except for the three bikes...which means those nice long 16 mile bike rides I was planning...were not gonna happen. Yikes! Regardless...after AAA towed his truck to his house, we had lunch and left from his parents around 1230.

We made it to Knoebels rather easily, hit no traffic, unloaded the car, and then I showed Dan around the cabin.
The cabin Ive been staying in for about 24 years
This is across from our front porch - it's the amusement park at our front door!

After scopping out the cabin, we went food shopping. Dan made dinner that night: steak, corn, and sweet potatoes on the grill. Yum! After that, Im quite sure we went into the park and had this amazing apple dumpling dessert.
The weekend was nice - it was just me and Dan in this huge cabin. It was a completely different experience for me - Ive never, in 26 years of going, been in that cabin alone like that. It was really nice. I felt mom there so often - in just about everything I did. It was a great feeling. The entire time I was there, I was happy. I mean, really truly content and happy.
Part of that is probably because of the place - Knoebels has always been a place where I can just relax. Another part was definitely because I was there with Dan...and because he loved it too. He was excited and we sat around the entire weekend avoiding the crowd in the park and reading, playing our DS or PSP, and I scrapbooked. We didnt need to be near each other every second, we didnt need to entertain one another, we didnt even need to be in the same room. But I really loved that when I finished a scrapbook page, I could get up and show him. Or when I got tired of reading, I could go bother him...and he didnt mind - he would even stop playing his game and give me attention. And I know he liked all this too - that we could be in the same place but still do our own things. And we'd run into the park for some food or to walk around at night, but there was no pressure...and we were just happy there.
So, obviously, other people joined us. My grandparents and Aunt Sharon and Uncle Jess came on Sunday. And then Monday night Matt (my brother) and Jess (his gf) came. Then on Tuesday, Chrissy and her bf came (though he had to leave Wed morning...) That's when the relaxation stopped and the fun began!
We read about a photo contest that Knoebels was running and decided we HAD to win it...so we set out to take lots of pictures...
