We should get a dog

This is something we have been saying for several years. I was, however, unwilling to pay some dirtbag breeder who sees animals as a commodity, and while I love the idea of rescuing, I'm also aware that some rescues are traumatised to an extent that makes it really hard to socialise them to hoomans and other dog persons. Or to a happy life. I'm already a relentless sensitive wee fleur and dogs bring me to tears easily. A too broken one would, paradoxically, break me. So nothing continued to happen.

Himself and I did agree, however, that staffy's are awesome: great personalities, super affectionate, manageable size for a leprechaun like me. So we've kept our eyes on some rescue organisations here in NZ, but in the end it was a Facebook request on behalf of a friend that brought the stork chez nous:

My friend A who is now in poor health needs to re home his Staffie Terrier cross puppies. They are brother and sister, 5 months old and play together very well. They are not noisy dogs. Ideally both puppies to one loving home but A. will consider two separate homes if necessary. They have been vaccinated.

This came in while I was overseas last week. Here's mine and Himself's discussion:

My enthusiaism surprised him: I've always felt the universe will bring us our wee'un at the right time. So Himself arranged for A to come by our place on Thursday "for a visit". As I suspected, once he realised we were good people he wanted us to take them immediately. Which, of course, we did. We are so gutted for A. who obviously loves these two so much he's done what he knows are in their best interests. And yes, that's me crying as I write this...

So how about a a hearty dia diaobh for Óisín (owe-sheen) and Níamh (Neev or Nee-uv):

Óisín has the brown ring around his eye, Niamh's the sweetie with the fatigued look familiar to all us introverts with a mega-extrovert sibling. Aren't they gorgeous? We are already completely in love with both of them!

Setting in and setting up
We have a lot of dog people in our kinship circles--locally and overseas. So it's been awesome for so many to offer support, tips, and advice. Really--it's all been amazing. They arrived with some food, their binky, some toys, leads, harnesses. Friday arvo we nipped out to get them a crate (which they already love), more food, more treats, more balls. We've ordered puppy pads, a nicer cushion for their crate, and a baby barrier to keep them in the lounge/kitchen while we're out.
Both of us work partially from home already: either full days or shifting in early and coming home after lunch. So they won't be alone very much for very long anyways. We were out for about one hour yesterday, and came back to a debris field--but nothing important. We're trying to remember to keep the chewables as far away as possible. Especially the remotes. :)
Níamh is already going weewees on command outside; Óisín is a bit thicker. But then again he picked up sit super fast and she's fairly perplexed by it. Both are complete cuddlemonsters too:

Years ago when my parents adopted a new dog my brother Mike said "you just won the puppy lottery." Mom said "no we did."  I feel the same way.
