An Additional Frontier

It's been a few weeks, and because I'm a huge nerd, I suppose that I have an obligation to offer up my thoughts on the newest Star Trek movie. The short answer is that I liked it. I really liked it.

As for the inevitable longer answer ... )

i think with Kahn, maybe its just because its from 1982 and felt a little out dated to me....i dont know, Kahn just seemed so weak mentally, maybe if i saw the original episode he was in I would feel different......He just came off a ridiculous to me....but it could be just it was 1982 and the effects back then werent the greatest....they were not as good as like Star Wars effects from that same time period...or even Alien....it had a sort of B-Movie feel to it....

I liked it for what it was, dont get me wrong, its definitely one of the better Trek movies...but to me no enemy will ever be as powerful as the Borg were...its just too bad the movie with the Borg wasnt that great...it was good but i think it could of been 1000 times better than it was...

most of the Next Gen movies are kind of weak....they never could make a movie that was as strong as any episode....its hard to live up to all that expectation however...

Yah if Abrams is really doing "Let the Right One In" how is he going to add his time travel scenario into it? You know hes going to....

going to catch you this weekend for PJ Harvey...i think getting dinner before the show with Jen & Drew plus anyone else how wants to go...ask around and see if anyone is around...Ill email Tenillypo right now....

I don't think you're giving Khan enough credit (and I kind of can't believe we're actually talking about this). The guy hibernated through two centuries of technological advancement before spending a couple decades marooned on an isolated planet, and despite those disadvantages, he still almost wiped out the flagship of Starfleet with a science vessel.

That said, he was kind of ridiculous.

Maybe its because it was Ricardo Montalban and i just couldnt take him seriously...i was waiting for Twiggy to come in and say "the plane boss, the plane!"

but im probably over stating myself, i liked the movie a lot, its definitely one of the best Trek films...i just really liked the new Abrams film, even though there were some mythology gaffs and a few other little things that werent right, i just thought it was an exciting movie to watch....he basically took a little bit of all the Treks and put a story together...I like Drews philosophy about the Beastie Boys song..that was a good catch.

no matter though, my all time favorite Trek is an episode from Next Generation when they get caught in a time loop and the Enterprise blows up every single time until the end and they figure out they are in the time loop and they save the ship....

my 2nd fav is from Generations and its the episode about the captured Borg "Hue". and most of the "Q" episodes are fantastic...."Q" was a great character.

as far as original Trek, i need to buy the DvDs because i only saw them when i was a kid and i cant really recall them....and after seeing new Trek and Kahn, i really want to get them...plus Search for Spok.

so on my list i got to buy old Trek and the Battlestar DvDs...thats my goal!

I've always been partial to the episode, "Darmok," where Picard has to figure out an alien language based entirely on metaphor. But, yeah. All the Star Trek stuff that's been coming out recently has me really jonesing to rewatch The Next Generation.
