Last weekend went so well. I feel a huge amount of stress lifted from my shoulders. Saturday was our record release at music town. I was kind of worried cause the spurs were scheduled to play that day against the lakers and knowing San Antonio, it would’ve been a problem for us. But the Spurs lost the series 2 nights before so we lucked out. Sucks though I was eager for them to win a back to back championship. Anyways, the show went better than I ever hoped. Tons of our friends were there in high spirits. Josh was able to bring a PA that worked just fine. My new set up of the Sovtek head and Fender Strat sounded terrific. We played probably our best set we ever had. My mom came, which was awesome. We sold a lot more records and merch than I even imagined. It was nice to have the Sohns sing our songs. I can’t wait till the day when people I don’t even know sing along. Altus and Yoshimoto were splendid and were so nice and supportive.
The next day we had a gig scheduled in Laredo. I was rather stressed about the drive over there. Whenever we travel Texas, we take my mom’s van. The van is getting old and recently I have been iffy about taking it to other cities. I even considered canceling because I figured it would not be worth it if the van broke down. However, the show must go on, so we took off to Laredo. We met the guys from the Red Alert at EZs around 4 or something. Then we took off. Ride wasn’t too bad at all. Laredo is kind of a weird place to play shows. It’s either hit or miss sometimes. Last time No Return played at the venue we were playing at, there were hardly any kids there. We get there with more time to spare so we drive to the nearest McDonalds and I munched on a burger and fries. The Red Alert plays and they do a great job. The acoustics in that place are so bad cause it’s outside. I really hate outside shows. Eventually we played our set. It went super well. My sovtek amp is such a beast it was over powering the PA at the volume of 2, which is awesome considering it is outside. I turned it down. People at first were really awkward cause we weren’t hardcore but then after the 2nd song everyone got really into it. When our set ended a guy was begging for us to keep playing, “PLEEEEEEEEEAAAASE play one more song!! PLEASE!!” That was really awesome. Everyone is so nice in Laredo. So many people came up to us to tell us good show and then would talk to us forever. Once again we sold much more records and merch than I anticipated. One guy was asking everyone at the place for change so he could buy a record. We ran out of the first pressings I made, which I figured would take us till after tour. Afterwards we all met at Taco Palenque where I didn’t eat, but I got my girlfriend a plate of food to bring home to her cause I told her it is seriously the best Tex Mex ever. She agreed. We then parted ways from the Red Alert and headed home around 12 at night or something. The f-in border patrol pulled us over and made us hang out for the longest time. It was really freaking lame they had a drug dog in our van and everything. Then we drove home talking about anime and movies. Then the van fucks up. The anti lock brake light comes on and Kevin can’t do any more than 40 mph. So we get off the highway and I start to drive. Then the van works. I didn’t get home till about 3:30 am.
So yeah that was a pretty awesome weekend. I’m gonna go meet my dad at Chris Madrids soon. Yes.
Chase from My Mind and I have been booking the next tour. We have 6 dates secure so far with I think 5 more to go. Kind of is scary cause we have a month left to book those dates. But from what I can tell, these shows are gonna be of a much higher quality then last tour.
