Notes: This is for
tsubasa_lupin, fluff-y tegomass for you!
One sunny day at the beginning of August, the question hanging between them is finally asked.
"Ne, Massu, are we dating?"
Massu looks up from the strawberry ice cream they decided to share when neither was satisfied with the first ice cream they ate. He has just realized he ate half of it and the other half, then, is Tegoshi's, but his friend is not eating it.
"What brings the question?" he asks, frowning because so much ice cream makes his head hurt a little.
"That's what everyone is saying, right? That the stuff we do together equals dating."
Massu looks at the ice cream and then back to Tegoshi. His friend looks like he has given the subject a lot of thought, so maybe the ice cream can wait.
"You think we shouldn't go out together as much?"
"No. I like going out with you."
They both smile.
"Well, I like going out with you too."
Massu assumes the subject is dropped, but Tegoshi still won't eat his share of the ice cream. Massu thinks that's a terrible waste because the ice cream is melting away and soon neither of them will be able to eat it.
"Where would you take a girl on a date?" Tegoshi asks, never looking at the ice cream like Massu does.
He sighs.
"Don't we answer to that every two magazine interviews?"
"Yeah, but..."
"I would take her to eat ice cream."
Massu hopes Tegoshi takes the hint and eats the ice cream, but instead, the younger boy seems to shine with realization.
"We are dating!"
Massu stops looking at the ice cream. He thinks about it.
Huh.
"Does this mean I can take your share?" He decides, then. "You're not eating it."
Tegoshi blinks.
"Wouldn't that mean we're not sharing and you just bought another ice cream for yourself and not one for your date?" He frowns. "You're not a very good date."
"You are the one that's calling this dating."
"Well, you implied it."
"Yes, but-"
Massu can't finish his sentence because right then Tegoshi shoves a spoon full of strawberry ice cream into his mouth.
"This is the way to do it." Tegoshi explains, as the older of the two swallows. "Because I'm a very good date."
Massu blushes when Tegoshi takes another piece of ice cream with the spoon and offers it to him. He ponders for a moment if this dating thing is going to get more complicated, but then he realizes they've been doing it for a while now, and seems to work for them both. He accepts the offer.
"You can't be better than me if we're doing it at the same time," he reasons, after a while.
"I wait for you in every place we go shopping," Tegoshi responds trying to win one over him.
"I let you win at bowling."
"What? Wait-"
Tegoshi can't finish his protest with his mouth full of ice cream provided by Massu's quick spoon.
"We're sharing, right?" Massu smiles at the surprised look of his companion. "I'm being a good date."
Tegoshi swallows and can't help but smile back.
"Then you have to let me decide which songs we sing at karaoke."
Massu laughs.
"Tegoshi, you already do that."
"I know, because we're dating."
They both nod and exchange more spoons full of strawberry ice cream.
"Because we're dating."
The End
