Reasons to love NEWS, and some trues about boybands
I finally decided to start pimping my new favorite band here, properly. Why haven't I done this before for any other band or singer I like? Cus with other bands and singers I don't need to say more than "I think you'll like this song" and pass along the link to it to my friends. If they like it, great, if they don't, that's OK too. I'm all for sharing music, and my friends know I love hearing new stuff, but I'm not *that* passionate about it. Not out loud, anyway.
In this case, I *am* passionate about it. There's a whole lot of stuff involve *with* this band and it feels short to just say is "a band". Cus is not, *so not*. So, I've gather FOUR reasons for you to fall in love with this band, and I really want you to, so pay attention!
NEWS. Ah, so much to say about them. But I will restrain myself to only my four reasons, so lets begin!
Reason nº4: The Music
It is true, that, when talking about boybands, it is never about the music. If someone says otherwise, is bullshit. You like boybands because of the pretty. And on occasions, because of something else altogether, like watching interviews with one of the pretty guys and be either interested or amused with what he's saying.
My case? I watched Nobuta wo Produce. I fell in love with the character of Akira (watch it and you're gonna, too!). I realized I had seen the actor in other doramas and liked him there too, so I googled him. His name was Yamashita Tomohisa, better known as Yamapi, a pretty famous actor, singer and all 'round entertainer with ambition, aspirations and really amusing friendships. I have been obsess with him and his bandmates ever since.
Once you like the boyband, it CAN be about the music. Mostly because you enjoy the whole package, but if the music is good enough (and that only depends on your standards... that can't be very high if you like boybands in the first place, right?), then it's worth it.
NEWS' music is not something out of this world. Most of the voices don't have much range, and the lyrics usually are rather simple. BUT, if you're like me and can enjoy music without being picky or a snob, then you can learn to love this music for one simple fact: It is FUN!
Most of NEWS' songs are about carpe diem, more or less. Enjoy the moment, do not let problems eat you up, move on, never *ever* give up, and please, appreciate those that are always there with you, cheering you on.
They have a lot of love songs too, of course. It was surprising for me, though, when I started paying attention to the lyrics, that they don't whine about love like most boybands do. As much as I like boybands, I get annoyed easily with the typical songs about "why are you with him and not me? I'd be a way better boyfriend!" (or simply put: "why don't you look at ME?!") or, going to the other side "I am SO over you! Really, I am!". Most of NEWS' songs, though, are about that wonderful feeling at the beginning of a relationship when you enjoy spending every second together, or about long term relationship taking the next step to forever. Topics, for me, a lot more romantic.
NEWS, at the moment, is a six members group. Their music, though, isn't just from *the* group. There's TegoMass, a duo with two of the members, Tegoshi and Massu. There's also the work Yamapi has done by himself, plus units with other people (Shuuji To Akira with Kame from KAT-TUN, and GYM with the Thai duo Golf & Mike). And then is all the work Ryo-chan does in his other band, Kanjani8. If that wasn't enough, there's also all the songs this guys sing that do NOT show up in their albums and singles! So yes, diversity and cuantity is on their favor.
Here's most of what's been *recorded*. Only what's been done within the group, though, cus Kanjani8 deserves a post all for themselves. The highlights are for my benefit so you know which songs I like the most and why, and watch them perform in PVs and live.

Ai no Matador is all about one night stands. *Seriously*. Great song! I haven't seen it live either, but I've seen them practicing the moves, so I know is out there!
Dreams is beautiful and makes the guys go all teary eyes when they sing it live. Proof.
Hadashi no Cinderella Boy, one of my favorites songs. They always sing it by the end of concerts, and they jump around the stage as much as if it was the beginning! Proof.

IZaNaIZuKi is just all levels of awesome and made the fans realize Shige is HOT. Proof.
Nantoka Narusa is sang by Massu, Yamapi and Koyama and they act like complete dorks while singing it. Proof.
News Nippon is their debut song. They used it to cheer on the women volleyball championship of 2003. I *don't* like it. Too many styles in the same song to actually sound good.

Sayaendou is from the last single released before the suspension. It was used as ending of the One Piece movie. They are pirates! Proof.
Summer Time. Latest single released, at the beginning of may. Easy, upbeat song about wanting summer to come, with the group being extremely cute in the PV. Proof.
Taiyou no Namida. Ending song for the Kurosagi movie. They look hot in the PV, and broody and angsty and wet, but mostly HOT. Proof. Enough said.
Teppen is the last PV with all eight members. Proof. Used to cheer on the women volleyball championship of 2005.
Weeeek. My favorite song of them all! Awesome, awesome PV. Proof. This is what NEWS is all about!

Code is Ryo-chan solo. I love this song. Ryo gets really into it when he sings it. Proof.
Kiss (Kaerimichi no Love Song), a TegoMass song, the really, really gay song I talked about before in another post.
Miso Soup. Debut song of TegoMass, they actually sang it in SWEDEN first. It's a silly song, but I listened to it when I was away from home, so the whole thing about homesickness? It hits me hard even now. Damn it.
Sunadokei is simply beautiful. It's a TegoMass song, though they've been singing it way before TegoMass was formed. There's one time Tegoshi sings it alone, and he looks, oh, so pretty. Proof.
Daite Señorita is Yamapi's solo debut. Opening of Kurosagi the dorama. The PV consist basically in Yamapi kicking the crap out of people and getting his ass kicked later, and looking hot all the way through it. Proof.
Also, Colorful, Gomen ne Juliet and Yubiwa are all songs I like very much for their lyrics.

So, the reason to love NEWS for The Music is simple: The guys are pretty and cute (and sometimes HOT) while singing, and the positive energy in their songs CAN and WILL brighten your day if you let them. Give them a chance!
