I'm going to Peru next sunday.
Two days ago I was going crazy with the possibility of working in the States. and right where I was ready to kill my mother for trying to "teach" me what to say in my job interview, my day comes down his room and switch on the TV in the kitchen to watch the news. The earthquake.
I was a little worry beforehand about my trip to Peru. Is no secret that our neighbors don't like us much and half the time we deserve the treatment (but only half!) and with the border issue we've been fighting about I was expecting really long debates about who's really in the right with the rest of the latinoamericans in the congress watching us. We're geographers! Of course would fight over a map!
But now... Now I'm hoping we go there and help. I don't really know what we could do, but we're going to be a lot of hands, so we could go to the towns and maybe move things around or deliver stuff or whatever is needed.
Earthquakes are a common occurrence around here. This year we already had a big one in Aysen, in the south, and a couple of years ago we had another big one in the north, near Arica and the south of Peru. We're still not exactly prepared, though. Not all of us. But we're the best equipped to help out in situations like this, I think. Hopefully, we will.
