If you're a college basketball fan (or if you just get sucked in this time of year by someone else) you may have seen the upset victory of Northern Iowa over top-ranked Kansas with a last minute 3-point shot by Ali Farokhmanesh. Ali is an Iranian American (American mom, Iranian dad) who is now gracing the March 29th cover of Sports Illustrated. The following article relates how his parents (who are college volleyball coaches) supported his love for basketball and helped him get where he is. The last line brought a tear to my eye, "He also would like to visit his father's side of the family in Iran, something he's never been able to do, to meet grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins he's never seen. 'That would be a dream come true,' every bit as much as hitting the winning shot in a big game in the national tournament."

Rock music (among A LOT of other things, lol) is banned in Iran but where there's a will, there's a way.
