ハァハァ... (part 2)
Chapter 186 is so delicious.
Starts off with Zenmaru doing some self reflection on his purpose of coming to the castle (and meeting his brother). What what? So saving Naoyoshi wasn’t in his mind at all?
Stuff happens and Kujou calls his lackeys and ambushes Kai. Zenmaru watches as his brother is slashed down and instinctively kills the attackers before they could make the final strike. Kujou’s like. Wtf man. And then Zenmaru has to be all cute and goes something along the lines of “I’m stupid so I don’t understand this stuff. I just thought, even if he is a betrayer of Oogame… I don’t want this person to die…!”
AWWWWWWWW. The tears streaming down his face did it for me. I’m just a sucker for brother relationships. With such a cute brother, how could Kai ever cut him down? Was definitely my thought!
And even cuter, Zenmaru declares that he’ll defeat Kujou. Awwwww dammit, I wanna see how their fight goes!
Then back to Manjirou. OMG YAY! So Manjirou hears ‘ga’ and rushes to where Gama and the others are. But what kind of a sound is ‘ga’ in the first place? Coughing/hacking does not make ‘ga’. Neways Manjirou stumbles upon the group just in time to hear Naoyoshi’s confession Ranmaru’s otome scene Gama’s jealously awesome speech.
[translations, super fangirl time]N: Ranmaru! It’s useless, don’t move, you’ll die!!
R: it’s unnecessarily to… meddle. I… have to defeat Gama… (coughs)
N: Impossible! The results have already been decided!
R: You’re wrong… the match is still… (coughs)
M: H-hey… this is
G: … (grits teeth)
G: Move it Naoyoshi-san! Why do you cover for him?
N: ! … Gama…
G: … he’s the enemy right?!
G: To us he’s an enemy we should hate isn’t it?
N: … No…
G: What …?
N: Ranmaru… he protected my life numerous of times…
R: !
N: For my sake that was thrown away by my family, to that extent he protected my life!
*G: But that sort of thing even us-
N: Yeah!
G: ?!
N: You guys and Ranmaru… I don’t want either one of you to die…
N: That’s why… please… stop… already
N: To me you guys are my irreplaceable comrades!!
R: (coughs) Naoyoshi… sama…
G: … che. I’ve lost the urge to kill
*G: At this rate I’m not going to stick around with this sickening affair
N: ! Gama…!

SO MUCH JEALOUSLY. But it could go both ways. Like either ‘we’ve done the same thing before’ or ‘even if it was us, we would have done the same thing’. Either way. It’s there.

There is just so much (good) wrong in this sentence. Firstly. Why so harsh Gama? 気持ちの悪い is such a horrible word to use… unless of course, it stems from jealously haha. Someone I stalk (lol) regularly in the Japanese Gamaran fandom noted that Gama never used the word ‘gross’ or ‘disgusting’ when he fought Muraku (cuz we all know he’s a second Hisoka but more gross for some reason…) but used it twice when 1. Zenmaru carried Naoyoshi when they were escaping from Ranmaru A LONG TIME AGO 2. In this chapter when Naoyoshi was defending Ranmaru. She then concluded that Gama only found it ‘disgusting’ when Naoyoshi is close to other men THEREFORE OFFICIAL JEALOUSLY. LOL I have to admit, that is pretty flawless thinking.
Secondly I almost spew out my tea when I saw 馴れ合い. I mean. Obviously I got the intended meaning, but… it was so hard translating that phase. Especially the first definition I saw of that was ‘illicit intercourse’. PFFFFFF LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. WHAT. WHAT. Did I miss something here?! So Gama knows what happened during Naoyoshi’s one year stay with Ranmaru?!
Now did anyone feel Ranmaru’s heart go ‘gyuu’ when Naoyoshi said his speech? His look was so adorable. Like a realization that someone other than Jinsuke is considering him to be important. And if that didn’t work than surely Naoyoshi’s tears did the trick. I mean, Naoyoshi was standing in front of Gama so he can’t see but anybody’s heart would have melted at the sight! How can they really continue the fight after that?
I really liked the implications of that scene. Because when Naoyoshi said he doesn’t want Ranmaru to die, it’s not as if he thinks they are the same. Rather, within Naoyoshi, he places BOTH Ranmaru and Gama to be important people to him. I am incredibly satisfied.
A funny thing about this chapter was that the first source I read it from was missing page 17 in the beginning (the page where Naoyoshi spills tears of relief because Gama is going to comply). It was… interesting because without that page I thought Gama was going to ignore Naoyoshi from now on lol (cuz he’s still pissed for choosing Ranmaru over him)
So Gama tells Manjirou to look after Naoyoshi (completely forgotten that Manjirou is actually a pretty high ranking officer himself…) while he goes off to look for his dad. Ranmaru stops him though, which prompts Gama to call him a 死に損ない (lit. Person who escaped death but ruder perhaps? Maybe 'lucky bastard' in this context) and that he has no desire to kill him anymore. Ranmaru explains that he can't move so he's not looking for a fight (aww he's cherishing his life now. Naoyoshi お疲れ) BUT tells Gama about his dad, that he has some kind of illness harbouring within him.
When I read that scene I was like. What? So Ranmaru knew after all! I could have sworn he would be ignorant of Jinsuke’s illness! And surprisingly Ranmaru said it with such a calm face. One would expect someone that is as dedicated to Jinsuke as Ranmaru would probably go crazy at the thought of Jinsuke dying off slowly. I’ve concluded that Ranmaru is just weird, lol. Or maybe Naoyoshi is really rubbing off him. Plz serve Naoyoshi after his arc is over.
And that finally concludes Ranmaru vs Gama. Even though it felt so long (really?!) it was actually done in a span of 5 chapters, which is normal for a Gamaran fight I guess. I’m pretty satisfied with this turnout. Ranmaru didn’t die, Naoyoshi defended Ranmaru (YES), I saw some cannon jealously from Gama (lol), and maybe in the near future Ranmaru would really follow Naoyoshi? It’s hard to say, whether the series would continue on after this horrendously long Muhou arc. For example I’ve just finished reading volume 27 of Yowamushi Pedal where the tournament finally ended after… 12 volumes maybe? AND WHAT. THE SERIES IS CONTINUING? WTF?! Lol volume 27 would have been a good place to stop…
I'm also reallt looking forward to Jinsuke and Inori's battle. It will be the most epic battle to date for sure! (unless Jinsuke suddenly spews blood and dies. Oops. Don't jinx it)
And with that, I can also be at peace during Golden Week lol.
