Summary: When Thor returns, his reunion with Jane is as good as a god could make it.

Jane had heard friends of hers describe some hot guys has having a “body like a god” before. And she had seen her fair share of guys without their shirts on. Even if she had spent far more time with her books than with Darcy at parties, there were still dozens of frat boys who would play shirtless soccer matches on campus. You’d have to be blind to miss the display of male beauty, and she was just a physicist, not dead. She’d had a few boyfriends, so she was hardly an easily-impressed innocent.

And not a single one of them could hold a candle to Thor.

It wasn’t just him being fit; the muscles under her hands didn’t just pump iron to impress the ladies. He came by them honestly, swinging his hammer to defend his realm against invaders so powerful they could have laid waste to her world. This was a warrior’s strength, bought in pain, effort, and blood. He could have snapped her bones like twigs, just by being careless.

And he’d never do that to her. Jane was absolutely certain of that. The callouses of his hands caught on her skin, making her break out in goosebumps all over again. She’d been afraid she’d never see him again, that whatever he’d had to do to rescue his world and save hers had separated them forever. But that hadn’t kept her from going outside during every thunderstorm and looking for a flash of rainbow light. She’d devoured every book on Norse mythology she could find, and then had pumped Erik for everything he could remember about his childhood bedtime stories.

But when he’d come back, none of that had mattered at all. He’d shown up on the wings of a storm, gleaming armor shining in the rain, cloak fluttering in the wind, with a smile on his face bright as lightning when she’d opened the door. She wasn’t sure if she had jumped into his arms, or he had pulled her to him, but they were both kissing and laughing at the same time as the thunder boomed above them.

Jane had pulled him inside, her hands buried in his hair, his armor warm as skin against her, sending electric tingles through her body that weren’t entirely due to the charge in the air. Even the bone-shaking thud as he put down Mjölnir couldn’t shake her elation as she tried to make sure he was here, back with her again.

“I watched you,” he’d said in between kisses. “From afar.” The armor had dropped from his body with magical speed as they backed towards the bedroom. (Of course magical, he was a god, after all, Jane had thought inanely.) “I had to break the Bifrost, I’m sorry-.”

“I saw the energy signature,” Jane said, gasping a little when he managed to get her at least half naked faster than she could have undressed herself. “The break in the wavelengths-.”

“I returned as soon as I could.” Thor had her face between his hands, so much joy in those blue, blue eyes that she almost couldn’t stand it. “My warrior fair, weapons of her mind and courage, Jane Foster, I knew I would return to you.”

“And weapon of her van,” Jane almost giggled, startling Thor into a lusty laugh.

“So you have vanquished me, and twice over,” he said, his hand trailing down her back, infinitely gentle. “What reward do you demand?”

“You,” Jane said instantly. “Just you.”

After that, things had gotten a little crazy. He was hot and electric against her, but gentle, so careful not to break her. Jane felt tiny against him and worried she wouldn’t be enough (Sif stood out in her mind as the kind of woman that would match Thor, and she had fretted), but his smile never faulted, never faded.

“Beautiful.”

And all the worries just fell away after that. He was the breaking storm above her, sending sparks through her with every touch, whispering encouragement in her ear. Jane had no fear of him, and urged him to take her higher. When the thunder had crashed around them, it almost drowned out Jane’s scream.

But not quite. She thanked all her lucky stars Erik and Darcy were gone tonight.

They’d lain together for a long time afterward, contentedly holding each other as the rain poured down on the roof, leisurely exploring each other in the dim light. And if both of them were still smiling like fools, than there was no one around to wonder at it but themselves. Jane settled her head down on Thor’s chest to listen to the rumble of his heart as stroked her hair, for this moment completely and utterly content.
