I haven't waded in on this much because I haven't read the proposed legislation. I do have a couple of things to say, though.
One of my first jobs was working for a local life/health insurance company. Trust me, guys -- no matter what the ads would have you believe, insurance companies are not your friends. They're not out to protect you. They do not have your best interests at heart. What they're after is your money, and if you become too expensive for them, they'll look for any way they can to either deny your claim or cut you loose. After all, they're out to make a buck for their investors/shareholders/corporate executives, like any other business. Don't believe me? Well, read this article in the New York Times:
Health Care Fit for Animals.
Secondly, for those people dead set against a public option, who yell at town hall meetings they don't want government-run healthcare, you can all just opt the fuck right out of Medicare, m'kay? I'm sure I can find a form for you to sign to waive your benefits. Because if you can't understand the illogical, oxymoronish position you've taken, I'd really rather my tax dollars didn't go to support your government-run retirement healthcare benefits. Saves more for me when I finally retire.
As for the people who've likened Obama to Hilter -- dudes, don't you know that anytime someone brings up the Nazis in an argument, they've tossed in the proverbial towel and admitted they have no rational points left? Schoolyard rules. (Or maybe it's internet rules; whatever.) Point is, it's a ridiculous argument, and you should all be ashamed of yourselves. Come up with something rational and say it at a conversational volume, and then maybe you won't look like a bunch of whack jobs to the rest of the world.
