I hate my job... but less than last week
So my new job... the one that pays me ridiculous amounts of money... SUCKS. I didn’t think I’d ever say this, but I now realize that money really isn’t everything. Don’t get me wrong - I do love money, but not more than I hate working at my new job. And so, despite the wonderful sums of cash, I will try to leave soon. I’m planning to give them at least a few more weeks, and if things don’t improve, I’ll be back looking again. I’m now starting to wonder if they were compensating for something... offering such sums of money because they can’t get anyone to work here and stay for any cheaper! Like a garbage man - paid so well because its a job nobody wants to do...
So the job itself isn’t bad... its the people. And it’s not even all the people - many of them are great, but there are a few “bad apples” that ruin the whole work environment. Meetings feel like blame games, projects are all hot-potato being passed around because nobody wants to take responsibility for anything, they talk over eachother and finger-point. The first day on the job, a developer flat-out refused to fix a bug he created because the page (its a web services company) because the page was going to be deprecated in the next major release. One was looking up beer recipes on his laptop during a design meeting... I mean... come on people...!
Anyway - last week was a new low. I found a big bug that was putting bad data into the database - making client software crash - and the developer refused to accept the facts. Instead, she attacked me personally, accusing me of incompetence in the middle of a meeting, rather than talking to me off to the side and trying to figure out what was right. That is... here, people saving face is more important than delivering a good product... and that’s just not a good work environment for me. (And in case you were wondering, it turned out that I was right).
Artistry returns
So I’m back to focusing my attention back on some of my artistry... but with increased vigor. My plight at the job has jump-started my ambition to GET THE FUCK OUT of the normal workforce and get back to my dream of owning a video game development firm someday. As such, I’ve taken extraordinary steps, and have marvelous amounts of energy (which I hope won’t run out anytime soon) which I’ve dedicated to a new video game that I’ve been thinking about for awhile and am finally making the time to pursue.
I expect it to be a massive success... I believe that I’ve identified a market niche that has never been filled - and I intend to be the one to fill it. If it works, I should become ridiculously wealthy, and will never have to deal with the drudgery of office politics ever again. At least... here’s hoping! I intend to have a playable version & will then seek venture capital within the year. I hope you all play it. Please-please-please-please-PLEASE play my game when it comes out. I will need you all to help viral-ize it. And who knows, if it really does take off, maybe I’ll have a lot of fun positions to fill at my new company?
Before you get too-too excited, I need to warn you that the game isn’t furry. But I hope you all like it nonetheless.
Frozen Oasis @ Morphicon approaches
So FO is coming up again... and honestly, I’m getting pretty nervous. There’s only about a month left and there’s still so much to do! And this on-top of everything else... its just so unwieldy. While my new job does suck, its an improvement over unemployment. Perhaps not so much with stress levels, but definitely in regards to being able to do things. At the very least, a job lends structure to your life. I don’t think it would have been possible for me to do Frozen Oasis at Morphicon this year without the new (shitty) job, and its because of the layoff that I’m having such trouble now. I find myself “back on track” and moving towards the desired destination (Morphicon), but with far less time to do what I need to be ready for it.
Here’s hoping it all comes together without a hitch.
New artwork up on FA
Moar Jaspi pr0n (NSFW) is now up on FA. Check it out by clicking
HERE or on the banner above. Artwork was a gift commission from the purdy pony "Boss" Spike Nico and the artwork is from Bayru. I wish I'd been given the ability to give feedback on the piece... Jas's face is wrong and his thighs are really huge, but it was very nice of Spike to get the picture nonetheless and I'm thankful for it.
Anyway, I hope you like it.
And that's it for this week. I hope you all have a wonderful time until next week,
Cheers,
-Jaspi
