My brother's toast (a speech I am rather proud of)

My name is Jason, for all of those who don't know me.  I am otherwise known as the mouthy, annoying, younger brother.  Or the one with awesome hair, whatever works.

I would like to set the tone.  When my brother was 4, he approached my mother and said "I want a baby sister."  Well, about 25 years after that, I stand before you as your best man, so I don't think that really happened.

I would like to regale you with some wonderful stories about John.  I heard a story that when my mother was pregnant with me, he would tear off part of his cheeseburger and feed it to my mother, saying "this is for my little brother."  When I was born, the first thing I ate, was indeed, a cheeseburger.

When we attended the same elementary school, we would ride our bicycles to school together.  One day I took a nasty tumble over my handlebars and blacked out.  I awoke screaming and crying, but the first thing I saw was my brother, making sure that I was ok.

I also remember John as my rock.  He is also responsible for shaping who I am today.  During my grandfather's passing in fourth grade, our whole family was crammed into a minuscule hospital room, and everyone was bawling.  I was bawling, on top of my brother, but my brother remained strong, stable, if you will.  Perhaps it was that which helped me stay strong during some recent family health complications.

And Kim, I adore you.  Do you remember the first time we met?  (Just say yes)  When I was still living in Long Beach during my undergraduate work, my brother called me one morning telling me that he was driving through the neighborhood and Kim wanted to meet me.  We had lunch, and she laughed at every single joke I made.  I talked to John afterwards asking if she liked me, and he said that she thought I was cute and hilarious, which was all I could ever ask for.

Kim, I am so happy that our family is part of your family, and that your family is part of ours.  And John, even though you got a wife, I was the one who ended up getting a sister.  So, to John and Kim, blessings for a beautiful life together.
