THE TTC IS ON STRIKE!!!!!!!

I'm screwed.

The TTC (Toronto Transit Commission) is going on strike on as of Monday April 11, 2005.

I don't really care about going to work as it's within a 50 minute walking distance ride(if I'm working on a day shift or if I don't have the gout ;-P) or a eight dollar taxi ride. What I care more about is the fact school is downtown (over an hour away) and that I have an oral French exam on Wednesday.

Again, I'm screwed.

I don't know how on earth I'm going to get there; I can take maybe the GO Transit system to Union Station (although I've only done it during the morning rush hour). I've never driven downtown - even if I did attempt to do so, I'll be stuck in traffic forever.

It's really ironic that the TTC is in so much debt and isn't receiving much financial backup from the prvovincial or federal levels of government, even when Toronto is considered the economic engine of the country. Where on earth is the TTC going to get the money its unionized workers demand when it doesn't have the financial resources? I understand the difference between worker's wages and the money required to run the system, but the TTC is an essential service. Just like health care, these workers should not be able to strike; perhaps it should operate on a reduced service until a new agreement is reached. Over one million people rely on the service as it's the second largest transit system in North America. If an agreement isn't made soon, Toronto will suffer another blow just like the SARS situation.

Forget the oral exam... I'm soo screwed.
