How to Panic in 12 Easy Steps

So I get a call at around 6 in the evening as I'm burning my KoL turns for the day and listening to my new White Stripes album - their debut self-titled album, for all those who are curious. Anyway, turns out it's our AO (Admin Officer) who needs me to come in. Right now.

First thought: Okay, who screwed up what?

Second thought: Oh, dear God, please, please, PLEASE let this not be a classified spillage!

Third thought: This better not be something simple and stupid that couldn't've waited until morning.

So, I ask what happened. She says she'll fill me in after I get here and that she's sending a duty van to pick me up (as I don't have a car here). Joy.

Fast forward, I arrive at my squadron wondering WTF is going on. CO, XO, CMC, AO, and the Admin Workcenter Supervisor (a YN2) are all there discussing something. Apparently, something big happened. I hear mention of trying to recall something.

Oh, shit. Please tell me it's not a spillage. I HATE containing spillages. WAY too much paperwork and other such crap involved. Even worse, I probably won't get back home until 11 or 12 or so.

So, finally the AO and the YN2 talk to me and start asking me about NREMS, our messaging system. They tell me about a sensitive unclass message that went out, but without a comeback copy (basically, a copy for the command's records or something like that). Problem is, a comeback copy returned anyway and it went out to everyone in the squadron who gets message traffic.

Oh, crap. Well, fortunately, it's not a spillage, so good news there. Still, I had to figure out what went wrong here.

Unfortunately, NREMS also chose that time to crash, so I have to leave off until the next day. Still, I had to explain what happened to the ADPO (my division officer in the squadron) and tell him what I was going to do to work on the problem in the morning.

Anyway, to top off that wonderful evening, I didn't even get to have the duty driver drive me back to my barracks, so I had to walk home. In the rain. Did I mention that it was raining that night? Well, it was. And I had to walk home in it. Joy.

Well, at least I got to have the rest of the night to myself. Meh.

whatever
