It makes me wonder if the reason why they call them wisdom teeth is because after you take them out, you smart.
Anyway, I had my wisdom teeth taken out today. All four of them. The process wasn't bad, mostly because I was sedated. It wasn't full sedation - you know, where they completely put you under - but they did give me an IV drip. Combined with the fact that I was completely exhausted from a lack of sleep, it was enough to knock me out for the procedure.
The worst thing about the procedure was getting the IV in my vein. Normally, you'd see the IV go in the forearm, right? Well, not me. Apparently, my veins aren't big enough or pronounced enough for that.
No, I get the IV in my hand. IN MY FUCKING HAND!!! >_<*
Now, it's no secret that I hate needles. No matter how big it is, I always flinch when I see them and I have to force myself to relax whenever I get one. But I've never had to get one stuck in my hand. It hurt more than any needle that I've ever got! And even after the needle was removed, the tube had to STAY IN MY HAND FOR THE ENTIRE SURGERY! Fortunately, the sedative in the IV drip took effect several minutes, so I stopped feeling it after a while.
The interesting thing is that after the surgery, I was walking around normally. I didn't feel weak or sedated, nor did I really feel like I needed to be led around by the hand. But I let the dentist lead me around until he handed me off to the wifey.
I'm not bleeding as much as I was this morning, but my gums hurt if I don't have gauze between them. It's really hard to eat. They've also got me on Vicodin and Motrin (the huge ass 800mg kind, not the ones you get from the store). Another funny thing, from everything I've heard about Vicodin, it doesn't feel like it's doing anything for me. I mean, I don't feel any different than what I usually feel.
Anyway, at least I got today and tomorrow off from work. That's the only upside I can see from this.
