Supergirl

Because I am a follower, I have drawn Supergirl, and it falls into the usual things I do for superhero drawings, of putting them in sneakers and trying to make them look much more unsnazzy and so forth. I also don't really know anything about Supergirl, or the way that  she has been being written that annoys

She looks like she's in summer camp in the 1970s. I love it!! I have never really understood the skirt either. I always assumed she had little matching underwear underneath, like tennis players do. I liked the redesign that Dean did, giving her a dress, because then there's nothing restrictive around the waist, but I'm still not sure it would be better than pants or shorts.

For a minute I thought you said "marching underwear" and I was intrigued! But yah, the skirt? I guess it doesn't have to make sense?

I think my "superhero redesigns" usually end up coming out like someone who just happens to be wearing a superman tshirt or whatever. This morning as I sipped my coffee I thought of a couple of changes I would make to this. Maybe I'll do some revisions tonight. 1. Furthering the 70s summer camp vibe, stripes on the socks. 2. A little red purse.

Yah, I try to justify a skirt in my head, like cheerleaders and field hockey players wear them... but NO! I just can't buy it.

And thanks!

Way back in the year 1989, Bernie Miereault did a comic called the Jam that my pal Jesse and I were quite taken with. The main character was sort of a superhero, but really he was just a guy who had a slightly modified track suit and "went on patrol" with his dog. This inspired us to come up with superhero alter-egos for ourselves (Ultra-j and Big Red), with very low tech do-able costumes. And we made the costumes and wore variations on them for years.

So I guess that is how superhero costumes make sense for me at this point.
