Vacation!!

Well I guess it is that time of year to brag about vacations.

I just came back from a really good one!! and I went to Seattle. Our first day we went to a really cool book store called the Elliott Bay Book Company. It the best book store I have ever been in. I got lost for a little while in there. All of the book shelves are wood and it is three stories. With many side rooms and places to get lost. I could have spent much more time in that store. But, we had to find a room.

We found our hotel near the airport. I think it was called the Seatac inn. Rooms are very expensive in seattle and I found a room for $38 per night. I got what I paid for. The smoke detector had been ripped out of the wall. The wires were still hanging down though. The door had been kicked in at least once. The walls were damaged and the maid did not clean every day. It was a place to sleep and that is all we needed.

We then took a drive to Mount Saint Helens. The site of the largest landslide in recorded history. It is also still an active volcano. We saw a rock slide while we were there. It is just amazing to stand near it and look out. As far as you can see it leveled the trees. Either knocking them down or leaving them standing with no bark (they would have burned in the 300 degree heat but there was no oxygen). I have never seen anything with that much destructive power. It was truly breath taking. Even standing there and looking at it I had a hard time visualizing what it must have looked like. The landslide deposited 60 to 300 feet of dirt on the valley below and pushed all of the water out of a near bye lake. Most of the water in the lake came back down (bringing a bunch of trees with it). The lake went from 300 feet deep to 150 feet deep and ended up being about twice as big around.

Well that is all the time I have for today. I will post about the rest of my vacation later.
