Constructive Criticism...again.

Sep 12, 2004 22:01

Ok, I just read the results of WWE Unforgiven, which takes place in my adopted homestate of Oregon. To say I am more than unhappy with this pay per view is an understatement. So, once again, using the teachings of sensei Matt Hardy and studying Mattitude and reading from the book of V.1, I shall use "Constructive Criticism" on both Triple H and the WWE in general.

The WWE: It is said that Vince knows his current writing staff is very poor and not delivering to the fans. If this is true, why is there no evidence of anything changing? Tom Pritchard was released for reasons still unknown. Why release him? He was awesome when it came to being a talent scout. I wouldn't know how he conducts himself backstage or how well is writing ability is, but from my perspective, he seemed like a smart man that knew what he was doing. I always read his columns, one of which that stood out to me was what WWE truly looks for when looking for their talent. He gave pointers to all the dreamers and WWE Superstar wanna-bes. He's like the old guy at the corner you can't always help but to ask a question and expect an honest answer with no bullcrap. But anyway....I understand right now that wrestling as a whole is not as popular as it once was, say, back in 1998, but that doesn't mean there can't be stuff that can be done to keep the average viewer from turning the channel.

But I also have to agree with another problem and even YOU, if youre a wrestling fan, can agree with...everything has been done. Every possible match gimmick, every wrestling angle, every persona.....its been done. So what is there left to do without someone saying "Oh thats been done before" "Thats so old" "Well I know where this is going". I guess some of us will have to just sit back and take it, sometimes we just have to live with the next Rock or the next Steve Austin or hell, even the next Hulk Hogan. Everyone has their time to shine, and nowadays, people like Austin and The Rock, their time is pretty much passed and other people are going for their spots. We only make it seem harder for them to break out because we expect them to be "as good as this person" or "better than that person". If we keep thinking that way, then we will continue to be disappointed with alot of the current wrestlers.

The first person that comes to my mind when it comes to that is, yes, Randy Orton. The young gun in WWE right now. Some say he's gotten more than he can chew by winning the World Championship. To that I say is wrong. Itis said his face turn and his championship run was a huge flop. to that I also say is wrong. Why? Look who was thrown at him! Who else can make someone else look bad than Mr. Levesque himself, Triple H. I'd rather have had Orton taking on people like Jericho, Edge, Flair, Christian...even pull a damn match out of The Rock. Triple H has been on top of the mountain long enough. I have an odd gut feeling that its why Heyman lost his spot as a writer the first time, it was probably because Heyman knew the bullsh*t of Triple H being on top was ridiculous. Vince probably agreed but Stephanie may have had a problem with it. Now, I write this as a fan, so in all seriousness, I can't really tell you how Steph really acts backstage because I have no idea, its just whatever comes to mind since Steph IS married to Triple H in real life and Stephanie is still a McMahon. Put two and two together and you come to figure out alot of things.

Some people tell me, "Well, if you don't like it...turn the channel." To that I say....why? Even during its darkest days, the then-WWF pulled something good out of their asses and it was stuff you'd kick yourself for if you missed it, and my belief of that stil holds to this day. Right now, the WWE is in its darkest days due to no direct competition and with someone that no one likes as their World & WWE Champion headlining shows. There is no more real fan interaction, and pretty much, the WWE has completely stopped caring about its fans as a whole. I remember that day back in 1998 when Vince came out, said that us fans don't see things in black or white, but shades of grey. We idolized factions like DeGeneration X and had heart attacks everytime Austin gave stunners to some authority figure.....but somehow, somewhere, sometime ago, Vince forgot that, in my opinion. There is no one we can truly get behind and go nuts for, there are no more proclaiming allegiances to while walking down the street (see "DX Crotch Chop"). I truly feel Vince has lost his touch in being with the fans, the people that place the money in his vault at Titan Towers. So please, Mr. Vincent Kennedy McMahon, I beg you.....its time to come home.

Triple H: Yep. Time to place the blame. During Triple H's last tenure as champion, ratings TANKED for RAW. They went lower and bottomed out at an average of 3.0 before Benoit entered the pitcure and took the title. Yes, even the days of Goldberg were shortlived because Goldberg was misused. My own theory is that HHH saw Goldberg as this threat to his status as main eventing, so during those meetings, Triple H may have lobbied to have Goldberg in skits and set up against opponents that would practically make Goldberg into a huge joke and never taken seriously as a champion. Remember the infamous "Entrance from a Janitor Closet"? Its sad. But come to today. He just regained the title after beating Orton despite falling to an RKO on more than one occasion and a chairshot. Orton has only held the title for 3 weeks. His turn was right after he won the title. And I still don't get where Orton got "little crowd response" because as I watched RAW, everytime he was out there, he was cheered very loudly and had chants of "Orton, Orton" each time. I also haven't seen much of a problem in his matches, even before he became World Champ. Notice how all of the events suddenly favored Triple H in winning the title? Making him look weak, making him appear to have little fanbase. Once again, I have strong right to believe that Triple H politics got into the ears of Vince and Crew, and Triple H got what he wanted, the World Title. If Triple H was the company man that he says he is, he wouldn't have won the title. Matter of fact, Triple H wouldn't have gotten into a feud with Orton in the first place. Hell, he wouldn't even have gotten married to stephanie knowing full well that relationships in the workplace, especially with the owners daughter, will bring morale down badly. Trips should know, if he were a business man, that the overall fanbase of the WWE does not want him as their champion, period. I would dare have someone with a big notepad and have it passed around asking if thay want Triple H as their champion. I would be you over 3/4 of that 1 arena alone would not want him as champion. But lets go further and make it a country-wide deal. The overall fanbase would NOT want Triple H as their champion. How do I know this? Just ask any fan. Anyone. Go ahead, I can wait. I bet the streetbum on the corner would tell you the same thing. But lets just say, for the sake of my humor, that Triple H is a very good businessman, and only does what they tell him to do and never offers up any objections. Then why is he still around? This should be Triple H's VERY LAST WWE CHAMPIONSHIP RUN...end of story. We need to have strong contenders again, we need to have champions, heel or face, that can make us say "Damn, hes good.", not "Get off my screen." or "Click!".

The WWE also needs to make better tag teams or just merge their tag belts and have 1 tag team jump from show to show, bring back the competitive edge for the titles again. If by chance some WWE employee, be it a janitor or some big-wig in the office with a gold tooth, is reading this, then realise that the company is digging its own grave and is becoming the butt of jokes in many wrestling promotions. Save your company now. Get the fans into your shows again. You know you can, you just are too afraid the big bad F.C.C is going to pinch you in the wallet.

As for us fans, we can do 1 of 2 things: Sit and watch the show and hope for a miracle, or simply show disapproval of their product by not watching their shows and spreading the word to everyone else and tell them not to watch as well. Much like voting, if you can get people involved, it can be a huge success. Lets see the ratings between now and whenever Triple H removes the stitches from himself and the title belt.

I write this as a fan of the product. I take most of my opinions based on sheer observance and by reading internet posts on the certain websites. They say if you go with your gut feelings, youre more than likely gonna be right, and well, im going with my gut feelings on all of what I wrote.

It was along post, but gives you stuff to think about should you be a fan of the WWE. I bid you adieu for now.
