Oooh, there’s special layer of hell just waiting for me after I did that subject line, it’s the one just down the hall from the reserved child molesters and people who talk in the theater.

But damnation is apropos for this review, so hop into the nearest hand-basket, oh not-so-faithful reader, as we’re reviewing DogmaKevin Smith is no stranger to ( Read more... )

Dogma is just so much fun. What an entertaining cast! I don't have feelings one way or another about Fiorentino -- her character seems to be mostly a foil for the larger-than-life presences surrounding her.

I really don't know what would emerge if we put Neil Gaiman, Joss Whedon, J. Michael Straczynski, Kevin Smith, and David Lynch in a room together, but I'd love to find out. :)

You may very well be right about Fiorentino. Bethany's character might have been too much of a POV character to really impress, even if she's the protagonist.

Oh I want to see the results of that union as well!

For what it is worth, I've really been enjoying these rewatch reviews. Thanks for taking the time to write up your perspective; my husband tunes in to Kevin Smith's podcast, so while I can't say I'm an avid fan of KS (I've liked some of his movies, but not all), I do feel like he's a presence in my life 'cause several folks in my life enjoy his work.

Well thank you. I think I would probably have written these up in some form or another even if no one read it but it's actually been a fun writing exercise and re-evaulating the films as well.

And Smith was a bit of an influence on me. He was the "geek done good." The guy who was not afraid to talk about his love of Star Wars or comic books and put it in his films. While I think with time he's less important to me today as many other writers (Gaiman and Whedon in particular) but like your husband I listen to Smith's podcast and he remains a part of my life.
