Jason, one memory we share will never escape me as long as I live.

It was late summer some odd years ago, we had just left the busy port of Syracuse on the isle of Sicily headed east on the Mediterranean Sea. The natives referred to their beautiful city as Siracusa but us with our stubborn American upbringing refused to acknowledge any pronunciation other than that on our cheaply priced "Guide to Southern Euroooopa". We were so innocent back then.

The morning we left the port was unusually calm and the eastern wind sent shivers down our spines right to the heels of our feet and we could have sworn that, if given the chance, those shivers would have traveled right on to the bowels of this earth. We left without thinking twice, our ship's captain a sicilian native and quite knowledgeable in the superstitions of the area and was never shy at the idea of letting his wisdom known to us in a fearful tone. All this quite unappreciated by us I must say, wouldn't you agree?

All jokes aside, we headed for Egypt, or more precisely the port of Alexandria on the northern coast. Quite a voyage that was, as we would never reach our desired destination and end up here, in the middle of the desert that is Texas, thousands of miles from home and no means of returning.

So we mixed and mingled when we got here, each starting his own new life as we each thought it proper to keep separated as to not rise suspicions from the locals of our past. Over time we became part of this community and then eventually became our new personas forgetting the life of adventure and peril we had left behind. But I cannot forget, old friend, nor do I care to.
