The Lion's Den

((Spinning off from this scene))

Jason resisted the urge to slam the phone receiver in its cradle. That this conversation was required gave him concern. Kennedy was what the Council strived for in a Slayer; someone trained from an early age, focussed, and most importantly, obedient. Not like the Campbell girl, or her predecessor. They thrived on working outside boundaries. And one of them was dead.

Anderson leaned back on the leather sofa, watching his superior. "Problem, boss?"

"There's always a problem," Jason growled. "And I want to know what it is."

"I'll assign a shadow on the Foster girl." Anderson stood at attention, then crossed to the door. And hesitated.

"Something else?"

He weighed his next words carefully. "J.C.'s avoiding me. When he comes in for his daily briefing, tell him I said hello and his parking ticket problem can easily be resolved."
