Harry Potter 3

As a new reader, I must admit that I am extremely impressed by your writing talent. You express yourself beautifully - better-than-average vocabulary, correct punctuation, and amusing entry subjects - which is a refreshing change from the other lj's I've browsed. (I'm sorry, I can't help critiquing - I'm an English major, it's compulsory)
Actually, the real reason I had to throw in my two cents and post a comment is this: I understand/appreciate/worship the magic that is the world of Potter!! Furthermore, I have a shocking - shocking, I say! - confession: I have not yet seen Potter 3. (Yes, I am hanging my head in shame) Given the spectacular job of the first two Potter movies, (in my opinion, on a par with Jackson's LOTRs) I am, quite simply, dying to see the third one.
Rats. I just now scrolled up and noticed that you posted this entry on the 4th. Do post an entry with your critique. And tell Gin I said hi and I miss her, since I have not spoken with her since school got out. Thanks. :-)
In completely unrelated news, I'm in your area... -Erin

First of all, Erin, thank you so much for your praise. However, I say this in defense of other journals... Most put out more than one entry a week (often several entries a day), thus my journal exists more as a weekly series... As I have described in this entry. I personally see most other journals as soap operas that aim to vent daily frustration, love lost, and such which is not wholly unlike mine except that I only update on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. Therefore, I can spend more time per entry which gives my entries the illusion of grandeur and importance... Unfortunately, despite my attempts at grandeur and importance, my journal still reads like a glorified soap opera (I am trying for the epic Angel lj, but I rarely fight crime; rather, I never fight crime). But then, that’s why people watch soap operas, yes? It’s because they focus on the two or three elements of our lives that mean the most to us; interpersonal relations with the opposite sex, personal disaster of sorts, and interpersonal relations with the opposite sex. So in this my lj is like all others.
Secondly, I truly love the Potter series. Wonderful, wonderful books... Some of the best reading ever. Gives one a nostalgic childhood feeling (plus I want to go to Hogwarts and be in Ravenclaw)… As for the movies and being of a Jackson caliber? Well, I can only agree with you on casting and almost, almost on cinematography (LOTR are my favorite books/movies ever). Back to Potter... Professor Snape rules and I cannot wait to see Gary Oldman as Sirius Black. A new guy is directing this film so it ought to be interesting. By the way, I have yet to see it. My schedule is such that I have been busy most my nights lately so I cannot supply you with a critique. I can only say that book three is when the series really takes off and gets uber good.
Lastly, I will tell Ginny that you said hello though I have not spoken with her in several weeks (normally we speak on a weekly basis, but she is busy of late). Also, I am assuming that you are in Gainesville based on the area comment.

P.S. Never mind a Post Script. Angel deserves a reply comment which will follow as soon as possible.

First of all, James, I agree with your general assessment of most other journals...the few I perused were, quite frankly, frightening. It is beyond the realm of my comprehension, the things some people do, and then relate in their ljs, in excruciating detail.
I seriously fell out of my chair - I was ROTFLMAO at "interpersonal relations with the opposite sex." Oh, you DO have a way with words! LOL
Moving on to the important part of this post: Harry Potter. I firmly believe that when I reach my majority, (don't ask me when that is, I just turned 21 two weeks ago), my powers will come in and I will go to Hogwarts. (I'm an extremely late bloomer, but that only justifies the sheer power inherent in my magic. In the meantime, I'm taking notes on everything Harry et al learn, so I will not be too far behind, plus practicing my British accent). I'm sorry to say that I have to disagree with you on the book front - ALL the books are equally fabulous and I think the series takes off in book one. I simply could not choose a favorite - much as I can't pick a favorite LOTR movie, actually. In fact, my favorite line is from the first book, which, sadly, could not be incorporated into the movie: to paraphrase, when Harry first arrived at Hogwarts, he was astonished at the number of doors in the corridor, but later discovered that some weren't doors at all, but walls just pretending. :-) The only book I have yet to read is Order of the Phoenix, but never fear! You have my word that I will devour it before the end of the summer. I really need to talk someone into going to the movie with me this weekend! If not, I am prepared to go by myself!
In conclusion, I really must address your not-quite-right assumption. I'm about an hour from Gainesville, but I visit frequently when I'm not in school myself - just last weekend, as a matter of fact - since I have several friends who go to UF.
-Erin
P.S. I don't really have anything else to say, I just didn't want to break with tradition. :-)
