There isn’t enough copper to wire China.
The world is overpopulated. This is not a new piece of information; however the degree of it is something that I don’t think many people have thought very hard about.
We could produce enough food to feed all the people in the world. If we do so than those people will reproduce more and the population will increase until there are starving people again. That’s what populations do.
The problem is that there are simple not enough raw natural resources to let six billion or more people live the way that people in western nations live. For example, even with all of the copper in the world, including the some 26% of the total world’s copper that is currently in the garbage somewhere, we could not provide electrical wiring to the whole world.
So what do we do? We need to reduce population. We can do this in a multitude of ways. We can have more wars and take less care with natural disasters. We can simply reduce food production and let starvation control population the way it does with all species other than humans. We could continue as we are until we reach a breaking point and everything collapses.
Or we can implement some sort of artificial population control.
By that I mean sex education and contraception socially accepted and widespread. I’m not saying forced, I’m just saying let people have the choice.
What does this all have to do with the Cacophony you ask? You’ve probably seen all sorts of drives to gather food and send it to the starving people in Africa. Have you ever seen a drive to gather condoms for a similar purpose?
I propose that we have one. This should serve to piss enough people off to be worthy of the Cacophony and also may possibly serve to shake things up a bit.
We need a social paradigm shift.
