Help the children and youth in the Townships in South Africa!

Mar 16, 2009 16:57

I'm working for a non-profit organisation. The South African Education and Environment Project (SAEP).

"SAEP is dedicated to helping children and youth in South Africa?s disadvantaged township communities through educational support at every level of their academic development. The organization aims to help children build their academic and life skills, obtain productive employment, and contribute as leaders to the economic and social development of their communities and their country. The population served consists largely of families who are recent economic refugees from the impoverished rural areas of the Eastern Cape Province living in "informal settlements" (for the most part shacks). The problems facing these communities are high rates of unemployment (probably at least 40% in these particular areas); crime; HIV/AIDS and TB; domestic violence; sexual abuse; and teenage pregnancy."

We are having different programms, some have just been started this year. Unfortunately, donations are always linked to the economical situation. Means SAEP is struggeling to keep up all the problems. But it's so hard  to see all those kids who thank you for your work, who are so grateful and appreciate everything you do.

"Institutional development: Support teachers with educational materials and provide a network among high schools.
Academic support: Tutor 800 high school students in math, science, English, biology, and other subjects.
Stimulus and enrichment: provide outings and school-wide events.
Career and academic counseling: help students understand career opportunities and prepare for them.
Day care centers: provide technical and financial assistance to help them become viable institutions for the community.
All program operations are located in Cape Town, South Africa. The United States Board of Directors for the organization is located in Washington, DC, USA."
