so the unm composer's symposium was the last few days, it was really cool. the feature artist was steve schick, arguably the greatest percussionist ever. he did two concerts last night, both of which were way out there musically, but were still incredible. he played an hour and a half of the most complex music ive ever heard, from memory, it was pretty mind blowing. he also gave a lecture this morning on the state of percussion itself, outisde of wind ensemble and standardized stuff. it was really cool. i got to talk to him alst night and today, and when i was introduced to him he actually new who i was by name because of my dad. they used to be really good friends when they were younger and still talk and collaborate once and a while. he was excited that im doing percussion too, he said 'especially since your father is such and important figure in the brief history of our art.' haha, pretty cool. he was a super nice guy too, good times for sure.
in other news, weapons of mass destruction backed out of the tour this summer, so that leaves us and possibly another band if we decide to ask another to come along. it also means we can do more than two weeks if we want, but it also means a lot more work. which im cool with, but it sucks they couldnt do it too.
