So. This would make a really awesome Club Vivid premiere? But I wanted to make it now, and I can't wait 10 effing months to release it. (Can you blame me?) Feel free to dance in your living room for the time being. My betas tell me that if you like "Paul McCartney," you'll like this. I don't disagree.

This vid would absolutely not exist without chickwithmonkey. She watched every draft, cheerleaded at every step, and pointed out the boring parts so I could make it better. Plus, she is totally this vid's babydaddy. I wanted to vid BBT (after marathoning it with her) -- specifically Sheldon -- and sent her this weaksauce song I found on YouTube, after running a ridiculous search for something like "songs for dorks." Bless her, she told me what a bad idea it was and gave me Critical Hit instead. And wouldn't you know, it was on the cd she'd bought me a year before on my birthday and only listened to once (oops). Amazing, right? Shame on me for ever doubting her evil genius.
From start to finish, this vid was an absolute joy to make. (Even the ~15 hours of tweaking drafts. Really.) It came together relatively quickly: 2 days of clipping, 6 hours to build the initial draft, and then 2 days of tweaking to tighten it up. It's too bad the first two episodes are so damn flat (and I'm not smart enough to know how to correct them), because I just love the bright color pallete they use to make the show really come alive. I love these characters dearly, and I love how boldly and unapologetically nerdy they are. In what other show can you find clips like these? I love the contrast between how cool/skilled the guys are in their own circle and how they see themselves versus how cool they are in the "real world" and how that view changes (or doesn't change). (I can certainly relate to that as someone in fandom.) I love the rivalry between Sheldon and Penny and how their friendship develops and is explored as the series goes on. Those are my favorite parts of the vid, too, more often than not. And mostly, I love that I could make a vid using my favoritest clips (♥) in fun ways against these wacky lyrics, including all the dancing I wanted, and it worked. Thanks again, Rach. You were right, I was wrong. It'll probably happen again.
Things I relearned while making this:
- Less can be more.
- If you think it's boring, it is.
- If you notice it, it's wrong.
- If it's not working, take it out.
- It won't be right until you fix it. No matter how many drafts you leave it in for.
- The problem isn't always what [clip] you think it is.
- As always, for every problem I correct, I notice 5 more.
- The last draft takes just as long as the first one did.
- There is no substitute for laughter and hugging in vids.
