Australian Invasion! \o/

It's finally time -- James Butterworth's debut album, Forget to Breathe has landed in the United States!

James is like a brother to me, one of my oldest and dearest friends and certainly one of the most talented people I know. He's also one of us, y'all. He's a fan! (He goes to cons! He's made a vid and written fic! He even has Serenity tattooed on his arm.) But in the real world, James is a singer-songwriter from Australia trying to make it as an independent musician, and I know he's going to be big news. I'm in charge of his album sales in this part of the world, so consider this the official western hemisphere cd launch!

His music is a fun blend of rock, country, folk, and pop with poignant lyrics of heartbreak and catchy melodies that will stay in your head for days. But you don't have to take my word for it - he's letting me offer his radio single, 3 Days, for free download here at my journal. Yay, free music!

Click to download "3 Days" for free! [ETA: Link is fixed, apologies!]

Isn't that awesome? To entice you further, I've got samples of all 13 tracks on his album for you to check out.

In my opinion, the best songs are 1, 4, 9, and 13, but that's because I'm partial to his rock sound :-D James's personal favorite is his big country song, "Old Guitar." "Words I Didn't Say" has the most beautiful vocal work I've heard from him yet, and "The One" has personal significance as it was written for me. The whole album is solid from start to finish.

Oh hey - do you happen to be a bandom fan? Did you know James wrote 3 hilarious shipper anthems for FOB, MCR, and Panic? They are ridiculously catchy and shamelessly dirty. Check out these song samples:

These are available only on the limited bandom edition of the album, along with two B-side tracks ("Remnants" and "Nothing Lasts Forever") that didn't make the regular cut. No more than 50 copies of this version will be made, so get it while you can!

While we're in this initial Livejournal launch phase, there are 2 special things you should know:

1) Like me, James is FTM (born female). There are very, very few successful FTM musicians out there, and so few of us are able to retain our singing voices after transitioning. (I couldn't.) He did, and he's incredible. On top of being an independent musician trying to keep food on his table, James is also saving up for chest reconstruction surgery, which is paid out of pocket and costs several thousand dollars. Getting it myself changed my life in ways I can't articulate, so I sympathize all too well with his cause. He needs to sell 500 copies to make this happen. All proceeds from the album go toward helping him reach his goal while keeping a roof over his head.

2) Having said that, he also wants to give back to those people in our community who are less fortunate and have nowhere to go or no one to support them. He is accepting donations to be given to The Ali Forney Center, which provides housing for homeless LGBT youth. I realize a lot of people have tapped out their donation quota for the month helping Haiti, and that's okay! The suggested donation is $1. I will match funds for the first $50 donated and report the total donated when we close this special offer. (This is a Livejournal thing only and isn't available on his website.)

If you are interested in either version of the album, I encourage you to please purchase now directly through me in this limited time offer. We will be selling the album on CDBaby.com and through James's website soon so that my journal doesn't have to be a public hub for the whole world. When that happens, the cost will be a bit higher and James will receive less per copy (after distributor fees). Right now he is receiving 100% of the funds and you get a better price. If you're just interested in downloads (or want to snag some extra tunes on top of your album), every song is available on iTunes, and every dollar helps get him closer to his dream.

So, here's how to order!

- Paypal jb-cd-sales@hotmail.com with your payment, name, and shipping information using the button below. The quoted prices already include shipping.

To add a donation, just use the button below again after adding the album to your shopping cart, and the window will auto-refresh. (To donate more than $1, just adjust the quantity of that item in your shopping cart.)

If you live in Seattle and know me personally, email me to arrange in-person delivery and a reduced (shipping-free) price.

*Note: If shipping to a different address than listed on your account, please either include it in the comment box on the order or email separately with your information. No Paypal account? No problem! Email us to make alternate arrangements. And remember, all 18 songs are up on iTunes if you prefer to get your music that way.

Finally, there is one more special offer for you: as an unsigned artist, James needs all the help he can get to boost the signal. I can't do this alone! If you are willing to pimp his cd in your journal/twitter/Facebook, I will send you his smoking hot new song, "Easier," recorded after the album was completed. It's the first time he's sung with his Australian accent, and it's not to be missed. This track is NOT on iTunes and will be on his second album.

To get this bonus track, simply post some kind of nudge, review, shoutout, or whatever you please in your webspace of choice. You need to include his name and a link to somewhere that sells the album. Please only link to this LJ post on your own LJ or Dreamwidth. If you're posting on Facebook or Twitter, link to his website. I don't need random people on Facebook reading my journal, and they can't comment here without an account anyway. Thank you. Once you've pimped, point me in the direction of it (a comment here or an email to jarrow272 at gmail) and I'll send you the song. Thank you so much for your help!

If you like what you've heard, be sure to head over to his brand spankin new website I made (graphics courtesy of laurashapiro!) and sign his guestbook with a little love. ♥ And from me personally, thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting my brother.

james, important
