marching band!

As you may know, I play in the Rainbow City Band, Seattle's GLBT marching band. I'm the second in command of the drumline, and I'm on quad toms this year.

I meant to give y'all a heads up a month ago, but I am made of fail. However! If you're in Washington and get the chance, you should come hear us play!

Sat 6/20 - Fremont Solstice Parade (This is the big one!)
Sun 6/21 - Olympia Pride
Sun 6/28 - Seattle Pride (The other big one!)
Sat 7/4 - Kirkland 4th of July Parade
Sun 7/12 - Bellingham Pride
Sat 7/25 - Seafair Torchlight Parade

We recorded a rehearsal at band camp this year, so I have mp3s of all our songs if you want to give us a listen. (There's a link to download the zip at the top.)

Track 1. Drum cadence - This is just the drumline - this is what we play between every song. I come in on the quads at the 10 second mark. The second section (which starts at the 28 second mark) is the little quad feature. :-)

Track 2. We Are Family - because we are just that gay.

Track 3. Hey Baby - at 1:46 - super hard sixteenth notes! Eek! But it's one of my favorite things in the whole set :-D

Track 4. Tear the Roof - this is a quad feature, but the coolest part is at 0:58. SO hard but so fun!

Track 5. Cantina Band - do you recognize this from Star Wars?

Track 6. Thriller - I'm playing the suspended cymbal at the beginning, ha! Our section leader, Deb (who plays all the cowbell leadoffs at the start of each song) loves our quad part at 1:32.

Track 7. Stars and Stripes Forever

Track 8. Get Down On It

Track 9. How Deep is Your Butt Love

Track 10. Rock It - This is the other quad feature. Holy CRAP, is this hard. The other guy on quads has been playing for 10 years and he said this is the hardest quad music he's ever seen. It's extremely taxing. You can't really hear all the crazy stuff we're doing behind the band, which is a shame. It looks really awesome, though! It gets especially brutal at the end starting at 1:42. That's 4 measures of straight sixteenth notes across the 4 drums.

Track 11. Saturday in the Park

Track 12. Ain't No Mountain High Enough

If you will be coming to a parade, let me know so I can look for you! There's nothing like seeing a familiar face in the crowd. It makes the whole experience ten times better.
