NFLog: Week 8 Picks

Oct 31, 2010 09:22

Never in the history of the Denver Broncos had they given up 59 points at home. Happened last week to the Raiders after 2 turnovers on their first two plays. So within minutes the Raiders were up 21-0. Shame the Broncos didn't score 60.

The only bright side was that Darren McFadden netted me 43 fantasy points on 3 TDs and 193 yards from scrimmage. Of course I didn't need those points as I score 144 anyway and trounced my brother in our 2nd meet. So my team is over .500 again at 4-3 and leading my division. This week I face a tough challenge though as I face the only person that got more points that me last week. We both had a 40+ player and in both cases they were an aberration. That I'm only 4-3 and have scored the most points is both frustrating and promising. I did make a bunch of bad picks a couple of weeks ago which gave me my lowest total of the year, but even if I had made them right and scored 100 I would have lost. Hopefully my opponent this week had his great game last week and this week he'll fall back down to earth.

As for the Broncos, they are playing in London against the 49ers. London games tend to be high scoring. I'm not sure if their is irony in that given the English sport is round ball where the scores tend to be low.

Broncos beat 49ers - Well one of them has to win.

Cowboys beat Jaguars - The Cowboys have lost Tony Romo for most of the rest of the season and given that they don't look like they will make the playoffs even if he does come back it will only be for a couple of games. Jon Kitna is starting in his place. Hopefully this mean more passes to the TE Jason Witten as he re-acclimatises to starting in the NFL. It also means that the Jags won't have as much tape on his to prepare with, certainly not tape with him in the Cowboys offense. Kitna isn't bad either, probably not starter material, but I think him and the 'boys can win this one.

Dolphins beat Bengals - The Dolphins have been robed twice in their last 3 home games so they'll be pretty happy to go on the road I think. They should at the very least be 4-2 and they have played some of the best teams like the Jets and Steelers close. They were doing well against the Patriots too until special teams got away on them. The Bengals are a hard team to figure out.

Jets beat Packers - The Packers were probably one of the best teams in the NFC but they have been suffering injuries all over the place. The Jets should get this one at home, but they have been given up a lot of plays on defense. It will be interesting to see if Rodgers can stay upright against their aggressive blitzing.

Chiefs beat Bills - So I'm still not convinced the Chiefs are a good team but at this stage all they have to do is win and improve. They might well be a good team by the time they get to the playoffs, and given that the Chargers and Broncos are stinking it up their chances are pretty good. Either that or the Chargers are just given them a nice head start before chasing them don in the 2nd half of the season. The Chiefs are full of young guys but they have great coaches so they might not give up a 3-4 game lead like the Bronocs normally do.

Lions beat Redskins - I think the Lions are due for another win.

Rams beat Panthers - This is a bottom dweller game except the Panthers played well last week in a win over the 49ers and the Rams have been playing pretty well all year. Still no one would call this a high powered game.

Titans beat Chargers - Phillip Rivers' weapons are falling all around him and their defense just isn't doing anything. The Titans seem to be on a roll of late as well.

Patriots beat Vikings - Favre will probably play despite the ankle injury and Randy Moss can fill in his team on all the things the Patriots like to do, but ultimately the Patriots are probably a better team and they are playing at home.

Raiders beat Seahawks - Well the Raiders put up 59 last week and the Seahawks are much better at home than away so hopefully McFadden can score me another 40+.

Bucs beat Cardinals - Tampa Bay is 4-2, a half game behind the Falcons in the division. Raheem Morris, their coach, thinks they are the best team in the NFC. That is probably a stretch but they are consistently competitive and their 2nd year QB is coming along. Admittedly he isn't really a great fantasy QB, but he wins close games at the end and doesn't give the ball up too much so they games stay close throughout. If they keep the turnovers down against the Cards then they have a good chance of improving to 5-2.

Steelers beat Saints - Maybe if Reggie Bush was back the Saints would get the nod here but even at home I think the Steelers defense is too much for the Saints to overcome. The dynamic play is gone from the Saints play and without it the Steelers will be able to easily keep them in check.

Colts beat Texans - Game of the week easily as the Texans go into Indy to try and pick up a 2nd win over their nemesis and keep up with the Titans in the division. A win by Houston would be huge, but I'm not going to count out Manning and the Colts. Not at home and not after that week 1 loss. They will want some revenge for sure.
