Star Mule Days

Sorry posting this is a couple days late, I just worked out a way to show the pictures. :)
Anyhow, Star Mule Days, Star's founding-day celebration, was today. I wish I could have gone, but I had to work today. What kinda cruel, twisted boss schedules a required company meeting on Labor Day??? Ah well, Star is the next town down from Middleton, so I got to spend a couple minutes at it since I drove through on my way to a demo that afternoon. Took a really cool picture out my window as I was passing a guy on a mule, but I'd forgotten I still had the contrast setting all the way up for some surreal landscaping shots, so most my pictures didn't come out, including that one.
I love Star, it's a small, friendly, tight-knit cowboy community. And one where scenes like

aren't at all uncommon. They have hitching posts in front of most places, and somehow they've got huge, green trees all throughout downtown that make it almost like a forest. Light alone knows where the water comes from, although the Boise River's maybe a mile away. But they seem to grow wild, which means the water table must be pretty high. Ah well, everyone sticks together, and nobody minds if you stop to take a picture of their really cute horse

or nuffin! I went to grade school there, but since they only have a grade school (K-5), I moved to Middleton for Junior High.
Maybe next year I'll get to go to the rodeo and all for Star Mule Days! Small-town rodeos are more fun than big, professional ones.

In other news, I've decided I can't support myself financially selling pictures. So I'm gonna try to go non-profit and do community photo shoots. Good photos for me, charity points for community, everybody wins. I'm goin got the SBA today to see about grants for another non-profit I'm involved with, I'll check about this one while I there.

idaho, community holidays and festivities
