It's like it's always been there, but now it MEANS something...

I just gave my life to Jesus. I've been a Christian for a while, if by "Christian" you mean someone who goes to church and does all the right motions and calls himself a Christian without really comitting to anything or letting Christ into my personal life (taking it in vain, by definition), but it's all been an act--little-to-no substance. To give your life to Jesus is pretty literally what it says it is. For many years I've been a work in progress: I'd accepted Jesus and His Gift, felt the transforming power and mind-numbing love of my savior, and seen His power at work in my life. But it was still my life. I went to church, attended (and even ran) some church events, but I kept my church life seperate from my personal life. To follow Jesus we have to give up ourselves. The old self must die with Him. (there are versus that apply here, and throughout--I'm thinking of them but I dunno verse numbers--ask and I shall look up). What's different? Now I'm giving my LIFE to Him, to His service. Seeking Him and making Him more precious and valuable than ANYTHING else.
I'm not trying to make salvation out to be based on what I do, because, well, it's a free gift, not something I can earn or should even try to. But as Christians we're to bear fruit, to go out into all the world and make deciples, to love God (above all else) and others. Love as an action, not just a feeling.
That's just the tip of the iceburg...I'm having trouble finding the words to even start.
