Hello, Livejournal. It's been a while, yeah? Yeah. I've kinda been dispersing everything to Twitter, which isn't exactly the best possible outlet for my more rambly thoughts and general life updates.

I have been reading The Everything Health Guide to Adult ADD/ADHD by Carole Jacobs and Isadore Wendel. It differs from the previous books on the ( Read more... )

When I was first diagnosed with ADD however many years ago, I too started off with Ritalin (well, Concerta, same drug). Also found that it didn't do much for me. If Ritalin's not to your liking, maybe try something stronger, like dextroamphetamine or adderall? Both are very powerful stimulants, much moreso than methylphenidate (ritalin), and you'll certainly feel the effects. I've been taking amphetamines (legally) for a good decade now and I don't know what I'd do without them.

Actually, that's not true; I know exactly what I'd do without them (HINT: NOTHING). Anyway, that's one thing to consider.

I've also struggled with the paradox of the computer distraction. While being on the computer is requisite to 'get shit done' it's obviously at the same time a huge temptation to spend study time dicking around on the internet. In the past I've used programs that disable your active internet connection for some specified period of time, after which it re-enables it. No way to go on the internet during the interim unless you out and out uninstall the application. Sort of drastic, but it works. These days, though, I just take my laptop out onto the roof where there's no wireless 'net and do my work there.

While I'm certainly nothing of a sage or other sort of greybeard, I've dealt with ADD (among other mental problems) for the better part of two decades now; if you ever need practical advice or anything else feel free to talk to me on AIM (anthonyborell, my clever moniker).
