Jarod puttered around the kitchen. He made a pot of coffee and heated water for tea, then put them both into thermoses so they would be ready for the women whenever they woke up. He also toasted himself a bagel and added strawberry jam.
He was still a bit overwhelmed by all the giving last night. He'd gotten an umbrella from The Tick, an external computer drive from Miho, and a board game that still made him blush to think about it from Becky. For someone who'd never gotten a gift before, it was quite a shock. A pleasant shock, but still an adjustment.
There was a knock on the door, and Jarod got up to answer it. He signed for the small package and envelope, wished the delivery woman a happy holiday, then sat back down at the table. Noting the return address, he smiled. "Sydney." It also said, very clearly, "Do not open until December 25th." He put it to the side. Rules were rules, after all.
The small package, however, wasn't for him. It was meant for Miss Parker. The note from Sydney said only, "I hope these are the ones you meant, Jarod. They were not easy to get hold of." Jarod opened the jewelry box, and smiled.
He slid the box into his pocket, then took the envelope upstairs to his room.
When he returned, he began his project for the day. He opened many packages of Pez, mixed up the food coloring, opened a jar of frosting, and got to work. Parker wanted something original. He grinned, unable to imagine what she'd think of it, but eagerly anticipating her reaction.
