http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosario_%2B_Vampire This comic is one of those guilty pleasures of mine.
It's not particularly good, but it has some amusing points and the author has some odd ideas in regards to monster history but for the most part the comic is fun and I like the characters. Even if it is derivative of the shonen / harem genres.
Now I've heard from most places that the anime series (created by Gonzo) based off this that was released this Spring was shit and fanservice. Well, I recently managed to get a batch torrent and after watching the first few episodes, I can certainly say that I can see where they were coming from on this one. While not quite as bad as I expected, it is fairly fanservicy but for the most part it stays true to the comic. Again this can be debated as a good or bad thing, but again this is a guilty pleasure of mine so I suppose that the series will be as well. One of the interesting things is that they changed the pacing of some of the encounters. So far I'm only up through episode 3 and they've introduced one of the new characters each episode. So by this point our protagonist has Moka, Kurumu, and Yukari following after him. Even though if we were going by the order of progression in the comic, we'd be getting into the formation of the newspaper club that everyone eventually joins. I am getting doubts that will happen before they introduce everyone else.
It's not really a big change, but it is an interesting one and I question how far into the actual story they're going to get by the end. Still with a second season slated for the fall, I suppose that there is still time for some of the more interesting things that happen later on to still be told.
I'm not sure why I decided to blog this but it's been filtering through the back of my mind for the last couple of days. So if you have no idea what I'm talking about, please, feel free to just move on.
