After being exhorted by Tom and the embarrassment of having no one able to identify his corpse, Richard decided to give his friend's advice an honest try.

So here he was, on the front porch of the Mansion. He'd managed to find a comic book laying about, and was rather fascinated, but really, he's there for bothering.

And here's Margaret, whose typist has been horribly neglecting her and also fails at starting diologue.

Richard usually does as well, but he is determined to make an effort today. "Good day, madam. Lovely weather, is it not?"

"I'm sure it is. What on earth is that?" referring to the comic book.

[jarndyceheir]

"I haven't the fainest idea. I found it abandoned and have since been trying to decipher it. It is about the 'ex-men,' though some are clearly women. It is very strange."

[an_adventuress]

"It must an odd sort of novel."

[jarndyceheir]

"Quite odd indeed. Oh." Manners suddenly occur to him and he stands. "Forgive me. I am Mr Richard Carstone."

[an_adventuress]

"Lady Margaret Lorton." Because if you don't play characters for four months, they find a way home and get married behind your back.

[jarndyceheir]

"Ah, my lady." A small half bow. "It is a pleasure."

[an_adventuress]

Now, tell me, Mr Carstone, is this place still as dull as when I left it?

[jarndyceheir]

"Well, I don't know that dull is the word I would select. Mad, certainly."

[an_adventuress]

Mad? Then it hasn't changed at all.

[jarndyceheir]

"May I ask where you are returning from, madam?"

[an_adventuress]

The Continent. I had an engagement to fulfill.

[jarndyceheir]

"Oh." He hesitates, then asks, "May I ask how you returned, Lady Lorton?"

[an_adventuress]

In much the same way as I first arrived. I certainly didn't plan on coming back so soon.

[jarndyceheir]

"Oh, no, I meant..." almost shyly, though not quite, "how did you return to the Continent?"
