The woman driving the car right behind me this morning was really obviously texting while driving. She'd look up and participate in the traffic situation periodically, but her primary focus was on the phone she was holding near her lap.
Okay, okay. I did not actually SEE a phone. I do not *know* that she was texting. I do know, however, that she was looking down more than she was looking up at the road and that she was right behind me. It was morning rush hour and my left turn was coming up in half a mile. I couldn't get over in the heavy traffic. I was stuck behind this woman who was probably texting, although she could have been painting her toenails.
Without causing more traffic mayhem, how could I let this woman know that, as the pending victim of her next fender-bender I'd very much like her pay attention to, well, the proximity of her SUV to my rear bumper?
She wasn't looking up enough to see my eyes in my rear-view mirror reflecting fear at her. I didn't feel that honking wouldn't actually cause more of a scene than avoid one. I tried not to become overly preoccupied with her, lest I cause the most ironic of accidents.
I have a sunroof. I wish very much that I had a few small rubber balls in the side pocket on my car door for just such an occasion. A startling THUMP on the windshield, but no evidence by the time the offending texter looks up. It's a "Scared Straight" tactic with a bit of whimsy.
That's not terrorism, is it?
