Has anyone ever gotten the feeling that you've reached your emotional peak with a work of art after you've just experienced it? It could be listening to a wonderful CD, reading a masterful work of Literature, or seeing an amazing film or play. It's torn out your heart, made you FEEL more than you have in a long time, but it's over...and there will never be any more to it. It only has so many pages. Any more introspection it will inspire will be like deja vu. The curtain closes, the credits roll, you find yourself glancing at the back of the jacket, reading about the various literary awards the author has won. You've been gypped because you've just been taken on this emotional journey - and now you're abandoned. You go out looking for the sequel, or another film this director has made - but it never is quite the same, is it?
A work of art is like a really really expensive whore that will only let you cum once.
In the future, there will be artwork that grows with me. It will expand to fit my emotional needs and it will never be complete. To achieve this, I now realize I must CREATE rather than relying on other artists' work to fulfill me.
A work of art is never complete.
