I had an idea for a song. I don't know why it has to be a song, it just does. Unfortunately, I am not a born lyricist, and certainly not a composer.
This is what I have so far;
There’s someone out there thinking of me tonight
She’s laying next to you, and wondering if she
Can match up to me.
Whenever we leave, someone will follow,
Wondering if she can be better than the girls who came before,
envisioning them, maybe wishing they never were.
I’m your fair Rosaline,
The girl you left behind,
I wasn’t the love of your life,
But that’s okay, because you weren’t mine.
You know that girl at the beginning? The one we all forget,
The once pined over, longed for girl,
The one who isn’t Juliet
The boys I’ll know will wonder how they compare to you,
And I’ll tell them that it doesn’t matter,
And we both know that that’s true.
I’m your fair Rosaline,
The girl you left behind,
I wasn’t the love of your life,
But that’s okay, because you weren’t mine.
A walk on part in the film of your life,
They’ll always be someone you forget
You must, to make room for Juliet.
I don't want it to sound bitter. It's not a 'take that' to an ex. It's about acknowledging that sometimes we are just bit players or walk on parts in other people's lives, and that that doesn't really matter, because you've both gone on to better things.
Most songs or love stories are written from the point of view of Romeo or Juliet. It just seemed like Rosaline had something to say, too. But I can't articulate it right, and I don't have a tune.
I do like the line "that's okay because you weren't mine".
Just to clarify, it's not literally from Rosaline's point of view. It's more anyone in Rosaline's position, which I guess most of us are to someone.
